Holiday?

James06 - 15/11/2013 14:00

I've been there several times mate, it's perhaps my favorite destination for a relaxing sun holiday in europe. But all things considered: where is better than the UK?

My holiday though isn't about me and the missus anymore it's about the kids. My son this year played on the beach, looked round castles, went in the soft play areas, climbing frames, swimming pool, playgrounds, amusements etc... had a great time. By next Sumemr he'll be able to, and wanting to do much more.

From my experience this place wouldnt have those things available anywhere near so much, and things like the beach and the pool would be very restricted due to the sun and the heat. Theres the travelling hassle and the additional likelihood of them feeling unwell to also consider.

Glad to hear there are sill parents who don't go abroad because of the affects on their young children. There is nothing worse than being on a plane with screaming toddlers and babies who are upset because of the air pockets and they don't how to swallow to get rid of the feelings in their ears.

The times I have bit my lip and growled under my breath about the parents selfishness taking children abroad so young. It isn't fair on the child and that's before you get off the plane.

My conclusion was taboo broken, loved it on my own, totally switched off and relaxed, hardly talked all week. Felt drained from months of contract negotiations and normal life issues, plus the weight training does push my body limits.

All in all, was chuffed and next year it will be two weeks.

The place I went was custom built, I didn't leave the resort, I just chilled plus had an obscene amount of massages. Slightly overbooked them really, was tired and a bit foggy when booking!!

Cool!

I'm pleased you had a great time Fear and appreciated the benefits of a solo holiday.

Every two years, I always visit Las Vegas by myself for a week and I can do what I want - make a fool of myself maybe!? ( well, it is Vegas!) and all without having to please other people and having to go along with what they want!

Viva Las Vegas for me next September and I am already counting it down :35:

I'm very much a solo traveller..2 India trips, 1 Istanbul, 1 Euro rail Trip over last few years.

Next year got 2 solo trips booked.....

Baltic states - Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia in Jan (I know v.cold!) for winter adventures ie Dog sledding, Bobslegh, Machine gun ranges and good Eastern european beers.

Hong Kong and Thailand in March......HK for 4 nights followed by 19 nights in Thailand, backpacking Bangkok and North Thailand.

Love to travel solo with all the freedom it gives you and as much peace and quiet as you make.

I went to Munich for four days on my own. It was actually a working trip but extended it out of choice so I could sight see and turn it into a bit of a holiday, I was a single fella at the time.

Honestly, overall it was an enjoyable trip, but I didnt like being on my own at all. Meal times and evenings in particular I felt lonely. Infact I didnt really have a proper sit down meal other than breakfast in the hotel, i just ate on the move (from railway station kiosks mainly). In a city famous for beer and pubs I had a few pints and met and chatted to some nice people - but it's not the same as being with friends or family. I even went to a match on my own, Bayern v Monchengladbach, got in with a load of the away fans and ended up going into their section of the ground with them (afterquite a few beers) so I have some good memories and had a good time.

Since then though I've been back to Munich three more times, with friends and the missus and had an absolutely brilliant time - better than when i was on my own.

Overall, while there are pros and cons to both - I'd prefer to go with people than alone.

Had a great time in Munich on my own Jim, fantastic city, and also went to see Bayern Munich at their Allianz stadium. I stop in Hostels so meeting people isn't a problem for beers, some interesting characters along the way. Meal times can be a chance to take a breather. I sort through my photos and write my blog at the table to keep myself occupied, and as you say a lot of meals are taken on the go.
The main downside of travelling solo is not sharing the experience with someone, but the rest is all positive!

I took a book/mag for my meal times, was a barrier more than anything. I've always been a bit of a loner really.

I think there is a difference between enjoying your own company and being a loner. I enjoy my own company occasionally, but overall I prefer to be around people.

I think fear that you prefer more time on your own and dont rely on people as much as I do, but you are definately not a loner in the recluse, flaneur traditional sense.

You're always meetign with mates and are out and about socialising. Crikey i've stood at the villa with you and seen how many people not only say hi, but how many you have to get around and speak to, how many come to see you in your seat etc... I've also been to your birthday celebrations and other get togethers. I managed to speak to and spend more time with Elton at his 50th! (which i might add was a lot less camp affair!)

Perhaps do 10 days JF, a week is never enough but 2 weeks is too long for me, 10 days is a happy compromise

LOL... yeah, I'm a bit of a strange mix. I did become quite reclusive at one point after my brain op, my mates at the time were bloody awful so I just cut off and thought fuck it. Didn't even like answering the phone or going to the door half the time at that point, but then, when you are betrayed like that, I guess it is going to take time to get over it!

It was actually starting on holteenders then onto this that got me back out and about and I've now got a good set of mates I know I can rely on, in fact, it is strange from being so isolated, there are now people all over the world I meet up with. Funny to think back when I was thinking of buying a computer, I wasn't sure (I was on sickness benefit back then, so not much money to spare) if I was wasting my money or not. It's opened a whole new world to me thank goodness!

I would say I spend 90% of my life on my own mind you, I don't seem to get lonely, apparently even as a kid, if people were around I'd be fine and play, if not I'd just occupy myself.

To be fair the 40th was a mincing party mate, you were warned!!!!

If I could spare the time and afford it, I'd do three weeks to be honest! But yes, know what you mean. They don't do 10 days there though and I intend to go back there.

Might do another holiday earlier in the year, parents might need a break so will have to see where my money is at ... plus there might come the opportunity of a lads holiday or whatever!

But an annual sod off alone looks like a nice option now!
