Here we go!

I haven't been paying close attention tbh. I don't even know who this Susan Hall is. Would you say its as much a vote against her as it is for Khan, or is he just really popular with a large part of London?
Both.
She's mad as a box of spiders. He's calm, competent and popular.

Hall has had many car crash interviews during her brief moment in the limelight but my favourite was when she ran into LBC to shriek about rising crime on the tube claiming she had been pickpocketed. This was a sign that Khan had lost control of crime in the capital and why nobody should feel safe. Meanwhile, the 'pickpocket' she sat next to was busy handing in the purse that she had absent mindedly left on the train, complete with oyster card and £40! Actually an example of a good citizen going out of their way to do good citizen things.

Did she back down and thank the fella? No, of course not. She doubled down and still, bizarrely, thinks she has been the victim of a crime.

Khan is only popular with the people prepared to vote for a mayor. He’s dog awful. Hall is even more dog awful

Turnout is generally on the increase for London mayoral elections.
"34% for first one in 2000; highest ever was for first Khan win in 2016 (46%); Covid-affected 2021 still managed 42%."

And general election turnouts are 70-80 percent. Only certain groups of people religiously vote for the London Mayor . London is a Labour city .

Khan is a terrible Mayor but because Lonfon is very cosmopolitan in its population makeup he has a very solid base. Susan Hall is not even well known in her own household. I don’t have a vote now having moved back to Nottinghamshire last year but I don’t think I would have voted or I would have gone for some independent. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a record low turnout

And to go with the government's "good news" about an investigation into Birmingham's Labour council, they are simultaneously suppressing the bad news that both they, and businesses, are unable to manage the new brexit checks at the border. Expensive check posts commanded to wave through incorrectly documented food imports.

What was it toms was saying yesterday about these new measures improving the quality of our food?

Wrong. Since 2001 voter numbers peaked at 72.2% for the Brexit referendum. In the main turnout in the last 20 years has been 60-70% as more people become disenfranchised…

Sorry chap did I write the BBC article chap where it specifically mentions farmers being happy with checks for quality reasons and am I applying the rules at the border? Dearie me

ITTO is right, she is unelectable. I think she was actually the second choice candidate and ended up doing it by default, can't remember what happened to the main one.

She is absolutely dreadful- a culture war warrior who comes across with racist undertones campaigning for the most diverse city in the UK.

Khan isn't popular and 8 years of incumbancy mean people should be sick of him by now even if he was, but the Tories have put forward the most risible candidate they can find in a very winnable race.

Donald Trump has fallen asleep 5 of the 7 days of his trial so far and apparently keeps farting in court. These are crystal clear signs of dementia. That's before you hear him open his mouth and the utter word salads that are coming out of it

He asked the Judge if he could attend his son’s graduation and was obviously hoping they would say no so he would have cause for more moaning.

The judge said he could which means Trump now has to go to the graduation. Given he didn’t attend any of his other kids’ graduations they may well be a bit miffed. Although…

Wow a medicine that can have adverse side effects in very rare cases? Can you imagine such a thing? Has something like this ever happened before? I’m shocked…..
usually things have ten year testing so that those chances are minimised i think and all due diligence done, hence they are rare cases. if it hasnt been tested with the same vigour then at this moment there could feasibly be common issues let alone rare ones and people who are affected by a product without due diligence Iimagine have a rights to compensation

Sure spend money like there’s no tomorrow to anyone who claims it whether legitimate or fraudulent.

There’s a very good reason the left wing and socialism never works.

I just hope people see through this left wing trash before it’s too late
how would we actually know it wouldnt work?

Falling asleep in some boring courtroom is a sign of dementia. sounds like bollox to me

Fuck all landlords bunch of fucking parasites they should pay 110% tax until they sell their property then it can just be 98% for the inconvenience they have inflicted on the world. Housing market has been utterly destroyed by the Tory scum & their boomer supporters
youre being lenient imo. i always said ban them, social leeches.. or parasites indeed

Also, the students that come with dependents are typically post grads who are one of the essential pillars of innovation, which makes the country a lot of money.

The next career level is a postdoc position which is similarly torpedoed by these chaotic clowns.
Recent changes are cutting our ability to recruit the best scientists into labs on temporary (typically 3 year) contracts too. They really don't know what they're doing or how much damage they are causing.

The new salary rules affect those entering the United Kingdom under the “skilled worker” route, in which employers sponsor the visa of a potential employee. Previously, workers had to earn at least £26,200 to be eligible for the visa; in December 2023, the government announced this threshold would rise by almost 50% to £38,700, well above what many early-career researchers earn. (The pay for a postdoc at the University of Cambridge, for instance, starts at £33,348.) Just 3 weeks before the changes came into effect on 4 April, the U.K. Home Office announced there would be a lower threshold of £30,960 for postdocs or Ph.D. holders in science, technology, engineering, or math. But the initial announcement caused chaos, says Gertjan Lucas, a behavioral strategy researcher at the Nottingham University Business School, who serves on the UCU committee for migrant members: “We’ve heard reports of universities refusing to renew contracts, even before the [April] deadline came into effect.”

should be doing the unskilled jobs and training brits for the skilled jobs, its bs seeing many of these high skilled jobs taken up by the priveledged from overseas

why are the spiders mad tho? no food in the box?

27.8% of folk thought "of course i dont have to bother voting against such a preposterous idea"

You clearly don't understand the issue of today. At midnight, we started laborious physical checks to ensure our imports meet the standards we used to have before brexit. Over the last couple of years we effectively had no control over our borders at all wrt goods just out exports had checks imposed causing a significant disadvantage to British producers seeking into Europe.

The only difference is we now have to wait and pay for the privilege imposing massive costs over and above the inflationary pressures faced by other nations that will be passed on to us, the consumers. There's no accounting that can spin it as a societal or financial benefit.
lmao, not only that but most of our food is of a better standard wth less allowed carcinagens anway
