Football During Coronavirus Crisis

Tottenham's players have been reminded of their responsibilities during the coronavirus lockdown after some were spotted flouting social distancing rules as Jose Mourinho was seen working in a public park with Tanguy Ndombele.

I thought this was a fake report, as I saw it on social media but the picture looked familiar.

If it’s true, it’s just as bad as Jack and Kyle, given Mourinho is the fucking manager!

Tottenham really are the most arrogant and scummy of scum clubs.

I saw rumblings Dan (but no picture), but Sky getting a proper response tells you all you need to know.

Just getting ridiculous now isn't it.

Let’s be honest, serves them right if they caught it, if the PM being in ICU doesn’t make you think then nothing will.

Jack deservedly got his public humiliation let’s hope Piers Morgan has a pop at the spurs lot tomorrow.

Yup - not wishing death, but the actions of some (even if the worst is a bad dose of flu for most) you are kind of hoping they get that hammered home aren't you.

Really am getting sick of it now, Masters PL statement/response thing wound me up and I'm wondering if it's the final straw for me in terms of giving some kind of shit.

The fact Villa haven't yet compounded anything is keeping me going.

I am really beginning to wonder whether the PL has a moral compass at all. With all of the issues of non-playing staff not being paid and/or furloughed we still see stories of who they are going to sign for £100m once the transfer window opens. There is a very real concern that we will have a global recession as a result of this pandemic but football continues to exist in the 'bubble' that it has created for itself that appears to be immune to the issues of the real world. Wrong, just plain wrong. Big money signings should be suspended until we are well and truly out of this crisis and clubs should carry on with what players they have got.

Anyone earning over £50k also starts paying 40% Income Tax instead of 20%. With our current tax system, without getting political at all, 2 people earning £40 k each in the same household appear to get off slightly easier....just saying. Surely there is enough money in big business to pay for what we need, unless of course you are Liverpool or Newcastle and then hit the lower earners first who are usually the lifeblood of clubs not the players who most are transient at best.

True '63 but, I was thinking more of the National Insurance pot that pays for pensions.
Several governments, including Blair's have raided the pot and never paid it back, Brown, as Chancellor under Blair, nicked £30 billion. Then governments come out and complain that they cannot raise pensions in line with inflation because the pot is almost empty. Well if the pot is almost empty, raise more money to put in to the pot. One way is to increase the National Insurance top out to say the £150k tax level. So that's a 12p in the £ for an extra £100k Then drop NI to 10p up until say £500k and over that £500k drop NI to 5p in the £.
Then everyone would be able to get a half decent pension.

Ah 58 there are very few British companies left in British hands, Maggie managed to sell off most things even utilities and invite all the foreign companies to set up here as well, all ok until the shit hits the fan and it's every Country for its self as it is at this minute

I remember it well 57.
A complete giveaway to her rich friends.
Sold the railways saying private business could run them better but, subsidises them to the tune of hundreds of billions, while the services get worse.
The only line that made any profit was the Great Eastern, once the government took it over.
Thatcher was a thief, remember she stole the daily third of a pint bottle of milk from schoolkids.
Her aim was to turn this country into a service country.
The advantage of that, to her and her owner's, is that all of the service industry's are notoriously low paid, leaving more profit for the owner's.

Not like Jose to flout the rules is it ?

Let’s see if he donates two weeks wages to good causes. No different to what jack did based on what we know without speculating on the potential extra curricular activities of our captain.

I think this is worse than jack (based on what we know) because Jose is a manager. My London mates disagree naturally...

First article with a quoted source I’ve seen suggesting PL will fold season.

If I m wrong I will say so, but I cant see any truth in that statement given that only this week FIFA and EUFA have released statements saying players contracts can be extended to make sure the current season is completed across Europe, and PL club chairmen giving interviews saying it is imperative that this season be finished.

Well said sir, we now reap the benifits of thatchers Britain. Look at the price and size of a new house in England now. In 1977 over 80% of all new homes built we're council houses now that figure is less than 10%.

Spoke to a specialist yesterday about a non urgent operation. He said he would be in contact in 4-6 months. It would seem unlikely that the return of football would occur inside that timeframe with all the medical needs. Once you eat into next season to finish the last you are getting less financial incentive to finish this season unless you really cram games.

Yeah, although remember players would (or could) be treated for injuries etc privately, not NHS, so might not be quite such an issue. Still need medics at games but then again, Villa use a private company currently.

But nothing can be done until social distancing restrictions are lifted anyway, we can't force players to not abide by those, whilst all others have to.

I really dont understand why they dont scrap the season. Realistically they should be talking about the delay for next season, not about 19/20.

Because of £

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said: “We face a £1billion loss, at least, if we fail to complete season 2019-20, and further losses going forward if the seriousness of the pandemic deepens and extends into the future.”

It's not actually a loss though is it , it's reduced income, and if PL clubs stop paying the players then we are more or less even Stevens

Why would they face a loss? We paid to watch games, sky paid to screen games, ending the season early just means they will be screening games for a new season rather than the old one...
