Exeter (A) highlights

Creating an angle to pass- looks like no communication between the two players but you never blindly pass the ball backwards without even looking. That only sits with Roughan

He did it v Bolton away too which also resulted in a goal.

Everyone keeps telling me he’s a talent … not in the Toffolo or Edun league.

Because he's not a wingback....he's a centre back playing in a wingback role.
So if he’s a CB why is he playing wingback when we signed a specialist wingback who was previously coached by MK so he must have thought he would be the answer to a problem position. Truth is Boyes looks out of his depth in Lg One so it doesn’t really inspire me with confidence that all the talk that MK will identify his own players and get his own players in will solve our problem areas.

Dead right too. Roughan is a young lad and has potential to be an average, solid League One player if he cuts out the crazy mistakes, improves his fitness levels and cuts the lapses of concentration. Suggestions he will go for massive money in the future are very optimistic at this point

I think he's good but leaving aside making the odd mistake (that's normal and I agree with you) do you think he's actually a CB? He can't be much over 5'8, 5'9 is he? Feels like he'd have to be ludicrously good to have a successful career as a cb even at lower levels. I think maybe lb would be better than lwb or at a push the left sided cb in a three but that could he quite situation dependent/would need to be at the right club.

I think I thought he was seen as a longer term cb but I'm less convinced now.

Also on the highlights... I can't remember anyone really doing that to Lewis before and just knocking him over?

Well you have to ask where were those two when they were 19? (Toff was 25 when he left us, Edun 23)

My crystal ball tells me that the teenage prospect Roughan will have benefitted from his experiences this season and will go through the remainder of his career taking great care over his throw ins and back passes. Two excellent lessons to have directly learned from at such an early stage.

I know I was a practitional learner at work, along the lines of 'kinell, I won't ever do that again'. I found making little mistakes very helpful in the long term.

This is a slightly stupid point but I actually think he'd be less likely to make that mistake if he had *less* experience as I think he just did a normal thing of rolling it back to the keeper but we have a clever plan where rushworrh stands out on the far left... almost muscle memory to just roll it back like that!

That also worries me a bit because MK must have been involved in Boyes, PLange and Shodipo coming in - and none of them look up to scratch.

Thankfully they are all loans!

January's window is pretty much accepted as the one which is used to patch over squads. Erhahon had been scouted for some time so he is the anomaly but the others were simply filling gaps. When you do that it is difficult to strike lucky with players.
Also all this writing of players off is quite reminiscent of some early views of Brooke Norton-Coffey's first games with us at this stage last season. He didn't turn out to shabby in the end

Just watched highlights and I had to watch the 'Roughan goal' about half a dozen times to believe it. I don't care how old he is. That was very poor. Did not look at all and no communication. Cannot really be excused. Also a consequence of constantly going backwards. And yes, also what the hell was Rushworth doing there? A completely avoidable goal on so many levels.
But they will learn from this.

I could only stomach watching that once 😳 One thing for certain, neither will ever allow that to happen again. Both in my opinion will go far. Rushworth will almost certainly be a number 1 in the Championship at the very least. Roughan is only 19 and is easily holding his own against most opposition this season. Fully expect him to make the full Eire team within the next 18 months.

Wikipedia has Roughan's height as 5 ft 9in as does another website. A third website has him as 6ft. Having seen him play in person half a dozen times now I'd go along with 6ft.

I think whatever it is it's maybe slightly undersized for what cbs are nowadays - certainly in a 4?

Can make up for some of with exceptional reading of the game and being aggressive I guess, but bit more lb than cb in that regard.

Check back on BNC first games for the Imps and it was nothing but praise from Imps fans. IIRC Vitals posters voted him MoM in his first 2 games at least. I think you’ve used a poor comparison there, BNC was universally acclaimed to be a potential top player. I remember his first appearance as sub was away at Plymouth, it was his rampaging run forward that got the corner from where we scored the winner.
Just Imagine that, a fullback making a rampaging run forward with the score at 1-1 away at a top table team in the last minute, those were the days when we tried to entertain and win.

Obviously Roughan will rightly get criticised for the no look pass, but wtf was Rushworth doing?

Rushworth was in a position routinely occupied when the Imps are taking a corner and Roughan the other side of the field. Bishop recently went close with a lob against an advanced keeper and Alfie May suceeded v The Posh but there have been examples of our keeper going even further forward to clear a long punt when there is a quick break. This is presumably a coached tactic rather than having a striker bearing down from distance . Roughan knows the tactics, he didn't look or think! I'm just pleased neither player hauled down Nombe so early in the game to add a red card

In comparison, Regan Poole's height is usually given as 5ft 11in. From observing the two players I'd estimate Roughan is at least as tall as him if not a bit more.
