Brexit Day!

On reflection perhaps my criticism of 70s British industry was a tad unfair. To be honest picking up a big chunk of the bill for saving the world from a spell in the dark ages left us a bit short of reddies for investment. It was nice to hear the new German president of the EU recently inform us that their would be consequences in our leaving. Nice touch that.

Not a fan of Brexit, but today is:

Transfer deadline day

Deadline for submitting Self Assessment tax returns.

Anything else probably doesn't matter.

You leavers really need to get over the Second World War, the Germans & Japanese have.

Whatever boomer

Just out of interest did you take part in any military action during WW2

Or are you are one of those people who take credit for other peoples achievements?

Not sure what your post is about to be honest? Of course I didn't take part, simple arithmetic should tell you that, my farther did though and came back "damaged". My childhood was affected by that, is that what you mean?

Yes. A nice touch. What a refreshing change that someone is telling the truth!
There will indeed be consequences for us. There will be consequences for them too.

They didn't push us out. It is only our home grown liars that are pretending there won't be any consequences.
It is a sad day.

Good idea. Lets just forget it ever happened. Probably just a misunderstanding that got out of hand anyway.

I’m not saying we should forget it ever happened but this constantly going on about it was tired and old in the 1980’s it’s just ridiculous now. If the time passed doesn’t matter then let’s look at British history you know the raj, concentration camps in South Africa, shooting people in wheelchairs & a thousand years of murder in Ireland & so on.

Then let’s look at the Hitler appeasers or supporters like you know the right wing, the conservatives & the daily mail, wonder who they supported leave or remain?

couple of things i grasped

considering that this was about britain and the EU, we never saw EU representatives in the debate, giving that point of view and reemphasising its ideals. So half of the story simply wasnt provided..

Also that in reality, despite all the germany n france n brussels type news, britain really moulded and drove the EU, MOST of the rules are literally built on British ideals and few seem to see that at all. so it will be genuinely interesting what its new ideals are.

i also learned that i genuinelly dont like a lot of my own family and that one can be blind to things...because they are family. My folks for example are working class, made a few quid, spent it buying big fook off houses and cars, spent lots of time in Europe,, eventually lose it all pretending they are important and then blame immigration. Its really just that simple, fkn hypocritical assholes

It feels like a wake. The twats won. My generation failed to stop them. My generation fought but lost against prejudice, fear, pride and suspicion. I hope my children's generation will do better, shorn of birthrights that I have enjoyed my entire life.

It's a big loss to the Brexit fanatics too, and this worries me.

Who do they blame for all their problems now? The boogeyman of the EU is gone. The Tory brexiteers have always had a reliable monster to blame for the effects of all the horrible policies they have inflicted on the working class of this country. Who do they blame now?

My fear is that inevitably it will be the brown people; more specifically Muslims. In their desperation to distance themselves from the consequences of their own ideology, I fear they will indulge the fact that for a significant number of working class brexiteers, putting brown people on boats, particularly Muslims, was what they were really voting for.

Those brexiteers on here who are doing to howl in protest; fuck off in advance. You may not have voted for that reason, but that 4% majority vanishes very easily without Islamophobia, primarily amongst the working class.

So when they realise that these sunlit uplands that we were promised don't exist; that not another penny is going to go into the NHS as a result of Brexit; that Brexit is a two way street and actually restricts them and their Spanish holidays more than it does foreigners; who is Rees Mogg and co going to blame for their own economic policies?

Will they hold their hands up and say yep, it's us, your lives are shit because we took those decisions?

Or are they going to indulge their friends at the Mail and express and allow the country to slip into blaming Muslims?

Who knows, maybe they'll go 1930s and try to demonise socialists. But no one from my local wetherspoons voted with the intention of putting socialists on boats

For someone who is supposed to be educated, you do really seem incapable of understanding things. What "restrictions" have been placed on Spanish holidays? They either want us or they don't. Would benefit our coastal economy by billions if people holiday here, but no one has placed any restrictions on holidays within the EU. They may charge a small visa fee.

Your generation fought against it ? Most of the 30 and 40 year olds I know voted to leave. No one knows who voted for what in the secret ballot, other than small surveys that have proved they are usually wrong. From what I've read about University education now, and the ludicrous reaction of people on here, there are probably far more younger people who voted leave who daren't say they did.

Like all things in life there are upsides and downsides. You seeem to be devastated because you have lost rights that you , and 95% of the population don't use, or may not even lose. Most capable people will still be able to work anywhere in Europe, Erasmus may continue, if you pay to go to a foreign University will they turn you away? As I've said before , the biggest barrier to movement is the languages.

Brexiteers will turn on "brown" people ? Many brexiteers are "brown " people!
What has leaving the EU got to do with "brown" people, other than in deluded Remainer accusations of racism?

Brexit may go wrong (I'm sure you will be delighted if it does), but you could at least wait to see what happens before deciding it's all gone wrong. Companies who campaigned for remain, like Goldman Sachs , have already invested and created more UK jobs.

Who knows what will happen. Exciting times are ahead, and we may as well start off with optimism.

That post is stupid even by your standards

No, I'm not inclined to be nice. On this day, you and all your small minded brethren are pure, unadulterated *****.

The cherry on the shit cake of that post is " you could at least wait and see what happens before deciding it's all gone wrong". I'm not sure I have ever read anything quite as stupid as that on this forum.

Why don't you and all your brexit brothers jump under a tram? Hey, don't knock it; why don't you wait and see what happens before you start complaining that it would be a bad thing.

Don't bother engaging with my comments about racism. If you don't live in one of those areas you can't even try to understand and you probably think every brexiteer is like you.

And of course, your comments on rights are a special kind of special. Rights that 95% of the population don't use? Like Visa free travel? 95% of the population will never use their right to a fair trial or to remain silent under arrest; shall we do away with that as well? And this from a bunch of people who bitch about sovereignty they never knew was missing until the daily mail told them it was.

For all the talk of unity, the brexiteers idea of unity is remainers just falling into line and thinking like they do. Life isn't like that.

Half the population is gloating, celebrating, talking bollocks about sovereignty and looking forward to sunlit uplands.

The other half is ashamed, depressed and immeasurably sad. There is no coming together. Maybe if these sunlit uplands existed. But look who you all voted for to produce them.

The remainer half of the population (which is actually more than half) will never forgive the rest for what they have done
