Brexit and all that shite ....

Do you not think she has a point Tenfut? Global warming is real. Things need to be done. Got to start somewhere.

As for attention seeking, I suppose she is ......but for the cause, not herself.

It's amazing how adults (including - or especially - POTUS) are shit scared of her and what she's saying.

Wish this bloody weather would bugger off.

The jury is still out for me. Those of us old enough may well remember the thick fog or "pea soupers" as they were known when every home had a coal fire, factories and power stations were belching out clouds of smoke. Their is little of that nowadays.
As for "Got to start somewhere" why pick the UK rather than China or one of the other faraway countries that produce far far more crap than we do. Even if the UK was completely carbon neutral with 100% clean air we can't put a fence in the sky to keep other countries crap out.

As for the attention seeking disruption in Bristol today I hope no-one in the middle of it all requires an ambulance or any medical assistance. Should anyone suffer because of this I am sure Greta will have a clear conscience.

I well remember coal fires and factory chimneys. We'd two in our village. Yes, they're gone from here, but not the rest of the world.

You're right. Thunberg wouldn't be allowed to protest in China like she does in the west. Therefore, she has to do what she can ...... and that's to campaign over here, so western Governments can exert the appropriate influence where it's required: China, India, South America (decimating the Amazon rainforest), the US (with Trump pushing coal again), etc.

Hottest summers. Wettest winters. There may be lots of reasons.........but I think it's generally accepted that global warming and climate change are certainly a contributory factor.

They pick the UK due to liberal policing, not because the UK is the worst offender by any stretch. Look at the hysterical reaction to Patel in suggesting more robust action in dealing with Extinction Rebellion. They caused criminal damage at a uni the other week and they just let them carry on with it. We need Boris’s cannons back. Climate change needs addressing, but no need for civil disobedience.

What shouldn’t be happening is schools in Bristol closing allowing children to join this protest. Utterly ridiculous in weaponising children to promote this cause, though not surprising given the infestation of the education system.

I highlighted an article that highlighted rank hypocrisy by the left toward Patel. You/they don’t like the fact there is now a strong Home Secretary in position that isn’t afraid to make decisions that upset their sensitive outlook on the country and can’t handle it. It’s time for acceptance that Labour lost and for people to start acting like rational grown ups instead of trying to cancel a company because the Chancellor of the Exchequer was seen drinking a certain brand of tea. As I said, if you can’t handle it then tootle off to a safe space where you will be sheltered from the realities of life. Once you’re willing to act like that grown up, then we’ll have that conversation.
Rank hypocrisy? Jeez you're way off with that one. We (The people fighting for equality and what I layed out before) have accepted that the Tories will be in for another term.
Seems to be just you that is trying to stir up hatred.
I haven't said I am offended by anything you or anyone on twitter has done. You are the only one in this conversation having an issue. It is based around Yorkshire Tea and a smirk of a crap politician.
You still haven't told me any of the great things she has done. It's been a day and you haven't given one example. if she is so great it won't be hard to come up with an example?
She wants to reintroduce the death penalty if that floats your boat. She tried to sack a top civil servant on Christmas Eve. Reckons there's "No excuse" For not solving crimes. She reckons poverty isn't the gov'ts fault or problem. She also wants to end freedom of movement.

For a sec. of State that is pretty bad and she has only been in the job for a few months.

not surprising given the infestation of the education system.[/QUOTE]
Teaching children about Climate Change is an infestation in the education system? Nobody is forcing children to strike. It is their future that is being destroyed, let them fight for it in whatever way they want.

Seriously, think you need a break from whatever news source you are parroting. You border on breitbart/infowars territory sometimes.

They pick the UK due to liberal policing, not because the UK is the worst offender by any stretch. ...

Exactly .....that's what I said ....... though I would have worded it as "a tolerant society" rather than "liberal policing".

...... Look at the hysterical reaction to Patel in suggesting more robust action in dealing with Extinction Rebellion. .........

Maybe if Extinction Rebellion were properly engaged by the government, they may find them to be an ally ....... if of course the Government is serious about the commitments they've made. That said, looking at the turnover of Secs of State at DEFRA (Eustice, Villers, Gove, Leadsom, Truss, Paterson, Spelman, all in the last ten years !) it seems more a poisoned chalice than a cherished appointment

...... . Climate change needs addressing, but no need for civil disobedience.

And yet, throughout history, it's often taken civil disobedience to get changes made. Not condoning it. Just pointing out a fact.

...... . What shouldn’t be happening is schools in Bristol closing allowing children to join this protest. ....

I'm on the fence here (surprise !). Though I tend to agree, I can also see an angle where a school could treat this as an educational opportunity, covering a number of issues.

...... . Utterly ridiculous in weaponising children to promote this cause, though not surprising given the infestation of the education system.

I see you're :fish: again .................. though I'm not your target. ;)

Indeed rank hypocrisy. She takes no shit, doesn’t tip toe around issues to pander to the over sensitive left and isn’t afraid to take decisions that upset them. Immigration system needs overhauling, she’s doing it. Keeping offenders behind bars she’s doing it, intent for greater robustness in dealing with (counter) terrorist issues, rooting out ineffective civil servants she’s doing it.

not surprising given the infestation of the education system.

You seem blighted by one or two others on here in that you just make stuff up. Patel, tea bags and now suggesting schools are forcing children to strike. Teaching them, in a balanced way, is one thing. Closing schools so they can go on a protest match is something quite different. My only surprise is you’re not down there yourself waving placards around again.

...... You are the only one in this conversation having an issue. It is based around Yorkshire Tea and a smirk of a crap politician.......

Don't want to step into your spat Richy, but to be fair, MiW didn't raise the Tea thing .......... it was me. ......MiW responded .........and we were both on the side of Yorkshire Tea.

Totally with you re Patel by the way. Confidence and eloquence can sometimes take a politician too far ................... especially when you get tripped up by those pesky counter-terrorists !
;)

On a slightly different tack, as he prepares to chair the Cobra meeting on Corona, Boris Johnson has stated that he's looking forward to trying some of those foreign beers.

Cats piss. He wants to try some proper real ales. Let’s hope he doesn’t invite Grundy, there maybe another drink related incident.

I’m sure when this vulnerable individual inevitably has a breakdown. The people behind the scenes exploiting her will reflect. Or maybe not.

Same goes for the mental health issues for millions of children around the globe. Who as a matter of fact are being told life won’t be worth living in little more than a decade.

In reality XR’s claims are entirely bogus and not backed up by any credible scientific evidence. But then they are just a front anarchists and socialist revolutionaries.

Life for everyone has massively improved and the only way to continue that is to bring people out of poverty in the Third World and beyond. People will never accept less travel, fewer luxuries, and what have you that XR want to crush. As ever it will be the very corporations they rail against who will find the technological solutions to our problems.

In a decades time, assuming Greta hasn’t outstayed her usefulness, she’ll be front & centre with more predictions of doom. No doubt with excuses for why the world didn’t go up in flames as she predicted in 2020.

Tell me where I have made anything up (Only suggested schools forcing children to strike as you eluded to it with your woefully misguided swipe at the education system). You claim the schools are infested and weaponising children yet you have no evidence.

My Mother is a primary school teacher and there are guidelines set by ofsted re: What they can and can't teach and how they teach it. Have you got some evidence to counter that or are you just going to spout something about lefty snowflakes?

If there's nobody to teach (Due to CHILDREN realising the need for urgent action) then why open the school? Waste of resources. Thought you would be all for that.

Fighting for a future that is being taken from you is a most honourable thing to do. I have been striking earlier in the week as part of the UCU industrial action and will be next week as well. And yes there were many placards.

I’m sure when this vulnerable individual inevitably has a breakdown. The people behind the scenes exploiting her will reflect. Or maybe not.

Admittedly, she does seem a very highly strung young girl ......... but maybe that's just the outward presentation of her autism. It's fair to say though that given her strength of character to sail across the atlantic, she;ll probably cope with a few old blokes having a pop at her.

Same goes for the mental health issues for millions of children around the globe. Who as a matter of fact are being told life won’t be worth living in little more than a decade.

So you don't want kids to be given a realistic outlook of what might be to come. If anything, the attitude, eloquence, determination and willingness to get out and do something fills me with confidence that this next generation has a little more about them than one who elects Trump and Johnson into positions of power. By the way, the next decade is merely the timescale for doing something ....... not the date of Armageddon.

In reality XR’s claims are entirely bogus and not backed up by any credible scientific evidence. But then they are just a front anarchists and socialist revolutionaries.

Mmmmm ........ haven't you a tweet to prove any of that?

Life for everyone has massively improved and the only way to continue that is to bring people out of poverty in the Third World and beyond. People will never accept less travel, fewer luxuries, and what have you that XR want to crush. As ever it will be the very corporations they rail against who will find the technological solutions to our problems.

I fully agree with the first part ............. and sympathise that you can't joing the dots together to see the contradictions in the two sentences.

In a decades time, assuming Greta hasn’t outstayed her usefulness, she’ll be front & centre with more predictions of doom. No doubt with excuses for why the world didn’t go up in flames as she predicted in 2020.

Let's come back and discuss it then, eh?
;)

How did you get forcing children to strike? Do you mean protest? As for the rest I haven’t mentioned Patel’s smirk, not did I raise the issue about tea other than to mention the complete over reaction by some left wing idiots.

As for weaponising children - today is your example. Closing schools so they can go listen to another child and march through the streets. The education system is infested by the left and teaching is now lacking balance. Curriculums or not, you need to consider unconscious bias. Even universities now ban certain people they don’t like to avoid upsetting snowflakes and there’s safe spaces everywhere do they don’t have to comprehend alternate views and get upset. I understand the government is to address this and rightly so.

Schools should not be closed - they should be open and providing children with an education. Mind you it’s any excuse these days to close, a few flakes of snow and they shut. It’s little wonder kids are growing up without resilience and ill equipped for the realities of life. It’s all me me me. I am not surprised you’ve been out again waving placards around, it just illustrates my point.

Bloody hard work to follow that chaps ................ all starts from Richy not quite quoting MiW correctly on post 8006.

Why is it that the right wing gammon types of the world refuse to accept that global warming and climate change is a problem that, a) exists and b) should be given maximum attention now. Smacks of what they really are selfish bastards.

You put up an article by The Spectator about how people don’t like Patel for some pretty obscure reason. You didn’t come back with ANYTHING other than saying how good she was. Which I argued against with FACTS.

I tried to give you chance to actually give some evidence of all the good work she is doing and you haven’t given anything other than parroting right-wing commentators.

Keep talking about lefty snowflakes all you want but it doesn’t make your points valid. Just makes you sound like a one track record. Really really dull it is.

If you want to come back with some actual evidence of all the things you elude to but don’t expand on that’s fine. But you do seem pretty single-minded when doing so.

I would recommend you look for some balance and don’t just copy and paste some Tory bile.

Anyway I have some placards to wave....
