66 is the record goals conceded

On course to get close to that, which is a disgrace with the players with had

Kamikazeball is not going to work

A lot of the problems is down to the players themselves and add to that NO BLOODY LEADER on the pitch this can only mean that the Coach gets all the blame! and its not us guv! cos we are protected.

Obviously "Todays" players are as thick as shit! if they cannot see what is going wrong during the game.

Nobody is giving Ange all the blame, just his share. He is the one in control of the next move. He can tweak his tactics, he can switch players around and he can get the club some credibility back in the NLD after yesterday's shit show.

Personally, I hope he focuses on the full-backs and centre mids. I think he could solve a lot by building a stronger structure around them. They've been set up for failure despite their current poor form. Those 2 things go together anyway.

Don't get me wrong muttley, I know nobody is giving Angie all the blame, well some are I am afraid, I was just trying to hi lite that the players themselves have to have a good look in the mirror.

Agreed regards the Full/Wing back situation, and for me also our Central Midfield, it has gone so bloody wrong there, reasons this or that, we really do need that CDM who can drop into make a 3 across the back, we have had those types in the past, it most certainly works.

NLD next we can do it! over to you Angie and your players,

Everyone here seems to feel we need a top quality number 6 who can sit back when the full/wings backs bomb forward into midfield but the fact is one of our current players could do this if that's what Ange expects to happen. The fact it doesn't is either down to the relevant player(s) not doing it or more likely Ange playing this risk/reward style of football and relying on the two centre backs alone to cover counter attacks.

Problem is, what you say is requiring Ange to change his tactics. Have you seen a Spurs 6 drop in and the 2 centre halves go wider to create a back 3? What we have seen is the number 6 in the full-back position as Porro and Udogie are told to get upfield. To be fair a lot of the time, so is the number 6.

This is the crux of the debate. Will Ange admit what he's instructing his players to do is not working and change these tactics? That can clearly be so subtle. As you know just 10 yards closer to your man OR 10 yards deeper OR 10 yards closer to your team mate can make all the difference. That doesn't stop you from being an attacking unit or mean that you aren't a high press side.

Clearly, something is not working with Ange's tactics. Surely we haven't just wasted £300m in 2 seasons on new players

I'm glad someone else can see this. Leaving your defenders exposed and one-on-one is a recipe for disaster. Always has been, always will be.

The other option would be to play 352 then the full/wing backs can spend most of their time in midfield. Don't suppose Ange will change his ways though.

This is where Dier excelled in Poch's system, he was fantastic at shielding and we often had a fullback in reserve to mop up. Udogie doesn't seem to want to track back and doesn't make up for it with goals at the other end either. Strange situation we are in!

To be fair to Udogie I don't think he looks 100% fit now. I think Ex mentioned in another thread he's carrying an injury. It's a brutal role he's being asked to play and particularly so for a young player in his first PL season.

Earlier in the season he was covering both ends of the pitch and one of the features of his game was his willingness and ability to track back and recover.

I think it's catching up with him now though. Unfortunately for him Ange doesn't seem to think he has any alternative but to continue playing him.

So we play a guy with an injury vs playing Royal or Davies?

It's back to the same topic though. Ange could easily get Udogie (and Bentancur) to play the role slightly differently whilst they're not 100% fit.

I still think a lot of our defensive problems would be solved with a very good no. 6 box-to-box player who can drop back into the CB position when we've pushed up. Mickey has scored a couple of goals now by being in the box at the right time but had the ball quickly come down the other way, who would have been there to cover? Romero generally hangs back when Mickey pushes up and vice versa but need that special player to help out, and it ain't Hojberg or Biss. And it certainly doeasn't make sense for Madders to be dropping back when we've pushed up. Set pieces........well that's another matter to discuss. Don't think Mason and Jedinak are cut out for that. Need a specialist set piece coach.

Like a lot of fans, your post actually confuses me. They talk about box-to-box but also want a player to drop in between the centre halves. For me, that just means we could have another player in their half being unlocked by a mid to long range pass.

What we might need is 2 number 6's who telepathically know when it's their turn to burst forward and when is the right turn to sit. That's even more important when we have centre halves encouraged to get forward. I've always liked the double pivot and the best one we had was Dembele and Wanyama. People just assumed that Wanyama was the deeper but I would argue that it was Dembele sitting deeper and Wanyama drove forward with the ball. Then again, they didn't have to worry about where their full-backs marker. They knew Rose and Walker mostly played in straight lines in the wider areas.

Ultimately, attacking players have skill and pace. They need managing defensively and, in my opinion, Ange isn't respecting them enough in this tougher league. He is learning the hard way and needs to refine his thinking moving forward.
