The sooner we get Conte players, the better. He proved on Thursday he is unwilling to change his system based on the players at his disposal. Last Sunday he had Son and Moura in the wide channels. He then expected Dele and Bryan to play the same roles and obviously they couldn’t. Why would they? He failed spectacularly as a manager putting that square peg in a round hole.
Any tactical coach could see that you need to tweak the system if you are playing Ndombele, Dele and Bryan together. All 3 need to be playing narrowly in front of Skipp and getting on the ball.
Then you’ve got the Sanchez on the left thing. That is another stupid decision in itself. Put Japhet there and leave Sanchez between Rodon and Doherty if that is the team selection.
Finally, Conte wasted substitutions and finished the game with a back 5 even though he only had 10 men to work with. Taking Rodon off the pitch was stupid.
So it is early days for Conte. He had a howler against Mura and can’t afford to repeat that. Obviously mutually exclusive to the assessment of the players, who let us all down. Now that’s a different thing altogether.
