D*rby to be relegated?

Probably worth taking with a pinch of salt but there’s a rumour that Derby are going to let Lawrence go on a free in January to get rid of his wages in preparation for league one…

This shows Derby are taking some difficult long term decisions. Lawrence is out of contract at end of season and will go for nothing. Derby are down, with or without him. May as well sell now and save £500k. This also suggests they are probably open to other pragmatic offers and if Forest were to return with a similar bid for Buchanan it is likely to be accepted providing a rival doesn’t match bid. If they hang on to Buchanan his price goes down as even with extension to contract he is out of contract the following season, summer 2023. They do after all have Festy.

Even on a free, I don't think that Lawrence would be good value for money. He's reportedly on 30k plus at the minute and whilst on his day he can be a match winner, he tends to have more off days than on.
Like a lot of championship player's that got a good deal 3 or 4 years ago he's going to have to lower his expectations.
On a free, and on 10-15k pw he might be a good acquisition.

You are probably right, but it is not stopping his agent touting him around other Clubs.

He has been told he is free to leave, that is if the rumour has substance

That is more than a rumour; it is under active consideration

Wouldn’t surprise me. They may as well limp to the end of the season using youth players then start from scratch next season.

It does suggest that regardless of Rooney’s tub-thumping, the people with more than two brain cells to rub together have accepted they are down.

Would not touch Lawrence with a barge pole. We want to create a dressing room of harmony and not one of divide. Exactly the type we should be staying away from, no role model to our youth players coming through.
He is 27 so probably at the edge of the age range Murphy is targeting and his wages at Derby would not be matched by us.

More likely that we take another dart at Buchanan.

Funny how the circle turns around.

Not so long ago we had a transfer embargo as Fawaz tried to push spending limits too far. Derby got closer to promotion than we did, but never quite went up.

Now the boot's on the other foot. We're intent on staying within the limits but Derby are revealed to have overspent for years and cooked the books. With a separate penalty for going into admin they look doomed.

And after an awful start to the season we're not so far off the playoffs. Funny old game.
