Middlesbrough (H)

there's no distinction whether it's inside or outside the box in terms of the law. It's always been down to the refs decision about if it's a 'clear goalscoring opportunity'. obviously how close the foul is to the goal does have some bearing on if it's a clear goalscoring opportunity, but it isn't the only factor.

the law was changed a few years ago to avoid the situations where a defender would make genuine attempt to win the ball in the box but would give away a foul and deny a clear goal scoring opportunity. This resulted in a red card, a suspension, and a penalty. It was decided that this 'triple punishment' was too severe. So the law was changed mainly to avoid a red card and penalty being awarded, but it's not specifically for situations that occur inside the box

I’m aware of the law. The foul was outside the box and denying a clear goalscoring opportunity so is/should have been a straight red card.

Their first took a deflection away from the goalie.
Dunkley second yellow was harsh and I cant remember the first at all.
Marshall should have done better with their second.
Joffy did okay.
Pilks added a bit of class and I had no probs with the line up.
Byrne my mom.
Ref was a joke but a draw was a fair result.
Credit to Charlton on their away win.
Worth making the effort to go to the game for a decent match to support your team who are showing signs that they aren't waving the white flag yet.

Putting aside all the rest of the bollox you often post (especially on the Brexit thread), we have never been in greater agreement.

I think the bollocks sir is all yours! Be it managerial tactics, substitutions or the most basic of referring decisions, how we manage to witness such gross incompetence in nigh on every game astounds me.

I'm delighted with the result, the performance and the work ethic from the lads.

Can someone please explain this guys mentality or is it just me

Are we sure Dunkley has two bookings? I didn’t see the first. Could the ref have got him and Kipre mixed up?

Ah..... you mean the chap who didn't try and tap the ball in from Naismith's excellent cross, that was only a couple of foot from the goal-line. That Pilkington? Any road, he'd just gone down with a touch of cramp minutes before. I expect that was the reason

I wasn't questioning Pilkington being subbed it was the sub.... Lowe coming on, whose confidence must be at an all time low, but hey wtf do I know Mr Cook......🤔😉

I think the writing was on the wall for us before the game started. I will never question Dunkley’s commitment and he did a good job for us, particularly in the promotion-winning season. But he is not Championship quality and it is no coincidence our worst defensive performances this season have come with him in the team. We played some of our best football this season when he was out of the team, albeit we didn’t get the results we probably deserved. So why is he back in the centre of our defence, forcing us to play Naismith at left back which is not his best position (he did okay tonight mind)? Dunkley is an accident waiting to happen and so it proved regardless of the soft second yellow. On Saturday get Balagun in alongside Kipre and let’s either put Pearce or Robinson in to give ourselves a chance. We need to keep Morsy and Williams as the midfield two and just go for it now. Nothing to lose now
