Tottingham Hotspurs v Aston Villa PREMIER LEAGUE Saturday 10th August 17.30 k.o.

Thought we played ok. Was always going to be difficult to hold a team like spurs off for 90 minutes. A few specific positives; thought Trezeguet looked a good player, and Engels looked decent in defence. Quite a few players looked capable of making the step up too, Grealish, Mings, Mcginn. Obviously we all know Heaton is a quality shot stopper.

A couple of negatives, Jota wasn’t the right type of player for this game, he likes to find pockets of space and play neat and tidy, I’m definitely not slagging off his ability but that style of player was never going to work in a game when your completely up against it, he shouldn’t have been subbed on. Also thought Douglas Luiz should have been brought on earlier, as soon as eriksen came on. As a specialist defensive midfielder thought he’d have been better at trying to close the game out than a tiring Hourihane. Slightly disappointed with Grealish at the end super lazy and arrogant to lose the ball like that for their second

I think overall there are more positives than negatives from the game.

Agree with you on all points except but I don’t think it was lazy or arrogant by grealish. Disappointing yes he Just needs to learn it’s not the championship don’t try to play in those areas get rid. Would have helped if Kodja had offered a pass for him.

Deano needs to listen to us Vital Villans and pick the best side, that is not our best side or if it is God help us

But when we went 1 up we just sat back and defended.

I could understand that if it had been later in the game. Jack had no influence on the game and should have been taken off. Hourihane did nothing wrong so why was it him that was sacrificed.

It has to be said that I'm not a big fan of hourihane but we did seem to lose momentum when he went off.

Bournemouth at home is more important ,there the games we need to win , Engels / Mings superb , think Luiz will be great , Heaton great , Wesley looked wank sorry

No need to be sorry woody he was, If that has been Davis there would have been people calling for him to go out on loan to the Championship.

It's very early days so I'm keeping out of it

Lads, get a grip spurs are a top side and we were not top 4 in the championship. I love this site and others but some of the comments are ridiculous. This season will be a bumpy ride but remember one thing the shit of the last 10 years is behind us, look up and enjoy the next 10.

not sure we can just happily write off games against the big six as if the points don't matter esp if you've got yourself into a position to take a point at least.
Heaton is quality and no-one seemed to worry about starting him instead of Steer which makes a couple of the other selections concerning.

Well beaten in the end - need to really pick up even against the supposed 'easy' teams. I'd take 17th now tbh

Exactly. It's going to take a few games for the likes of Grealish and others to get up to speed with the Premier League. Mistakes will be punished a lot more than they were in the Championship.

It's a good learning experience, despite the result.

Decent performance we need to learn quickly from. Some look at home at this level and one or two look a bit raw but will learn from DS coaching. Make a mistake at this level and you get punished.

Lost a lot when Trez went off. We gave the ball away too cheaply when we didn’t have the outlet.

Some very good spells in the first half, and we gave spurs a game. That’s more than can be said about Norwich and West Ham, so i think we’ll be okay.

Bournemouth were bang average today. Need to get points from that game.

Redknapp and Van Der Vart singing Wesley’s praises...

Really, probably because Spurs won and they need something to talk Villa about.
Good job he was shite today, imagine if he'd did something.
Credit when it's due but today he was lost along with El Ghazi I thought

Need to wake up though peeps.

Today wasn't a wake up call as we knew how tough it was going to be.

The wake up call will be when (as I think some expect they will) Bournemouth don't roll over for us.

The gap between EFL and top 6 or 7 is a chasm.

Like it or not there is a gap to be bridged between EFL and bottom half prem . The money spent by bottom half teams is generally massive compared to EFL . And you get better players for that money obviously.

Job on . Big time. As I expected.

Wesley reminded me of Heskey. Spent most of the match on the floor and had the touch of a rapist.

Only positive is I seem to remember saying the same about benteke early on, so hopefully he'll improve.
