Tottingham Hotspurs v Aston Villa PREMIER LEAGUE Saturday 10th August 17.30 k.o.

Disappointing result but I'm happy that we are disappointed, if you know what I mean. We were in that game for a long time. They really showed their class in the second half.

I'm not sure what people were expecting exactly but Tottenham were 3rd in the league and runners up in the champions League. They are a very good team. The bloke who scored their 1st cost 70m on his own, over half our entire spend.

Yes it's disappointing to lose but the simple fact is they are several levels above us and anyone expecting us to come here and boss them today is a moron quite frankly. With a bit more luck we'd be coming away with a point at least, perhaps undeserved.

Bournemouth next week is the true test of what we'll do this season. Today was one where if you get anything it's a bonus.

I don't think we have.

Played like a chumps team, got an early goal and tried to defend it for 82 minutes.

Our first shot in the 2nd half.
This fixture could have only been tougher if it was Man City away or Liverpool away. Nobody really expected anything from this fixture, and if we had took the game to Spurs it would have been a bigger defeat.
Its a learning curve for us, and the time to worry is if we lose to Bournemouth in the next game.

But when we went 1 up we just sat back and defended.

I could understand that if it had been later in the game. Jack had no influence on the game and should have been taken off. Hourihane did nothing wrong so why was it him that was sacrificed.

I'm proud of the Villa tonight. Never expected us to win and I thought we fought well and defended well. Heaton fantastic.

Yes we got a spanking off a bloody top team but we will learn and I feel full of pride at the spirit we have shown and believe that on the strength of that display we will be fine.

I think the whole team learnt one he'll of a lesson tonight

Thought we played ok. Was always going to be difficult to hold a team like spurs off for 90 minutes. A few specific positives; thought Trezeguet looked a good player, and Engels looked decent in defence. Quite a few players looked capable of making the step up too, Grealish, Mings, Mcginn. Obviously we all know Heaton is a quality shot stopper.

A couple of negatives, Jota wasn’t the right type of player for this game, he likes to find pockets of space and play neat and tidy, I’m definitely not slagging off his ability but that style of player was never going to work in a game when your completely up against it, he shouldn’t have been subbed on. Also thought Douglas Luiz should have been brought on earlier, as soon as eriksen came on. As a specialist defensive midfielder thought he’d have been better at trying to close the game out than a tiring Hourihane. Slightly disappointed with Grealish at the end super lazy and arrogant to lose the ball like that for their second

I think overall there are more positives than negatives from the game.

We were, unsurprisingly, outclassed and the final score certainly didn’t flatter Tottenham. Anything against the rich 6 is a bonus. It is how we perform against the bottom half that will determine if we stay in the division. I guess we will just have to wait and see if we have enough quality up front to do that. I rate our chances at 50/50.
