The Summer transfers/rumours thread

Sorry Northampton but Elphick had a run of games when he first signed. The vast majority of fans were calling for him to be dropped due to his continued mistakes. It seems a couple of half decent performances last Xmas covering for JT has made people forget. He was poor at Hull in the first game as well

Wasn't everyone calling for everyone to be dropped then ? It was after all a 'sinking ship' which needed saving etc etc.
Shaky kid from Man U costs us goals most games so far but people are frothing for him to have the chance to make even more mistakes at centrehalf - baffling.
As was said above Elphick captained a promoted team from this league and was well thought of by their fans - now apparently hopeless.
Still 20yr French lge2 player with 40 odd games should do the trick

woooot

Elphick's OK. He did OK standing in for JT. He scored in his "poor performance against Hull". When he first started playing for us under RDM everybody including RDM was finding their feet, and the defence was undermined by a rookie goalkeeper.

Please don't tell me Jedinak is a better CB than Elphick. He's not, by a big margin.

He was also partially at fault for the Hull goal and made a couple more awful mistakes that night. I dont know about finding them, he always looks like he's about to trip over his own feet. The guy was getting bucket loads of abuse from the fans not long after Bruce joined.

Elphick should never play for the club again by virtue of the music he chose for the team to run out to in his first season.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer was it ?.

Abysmal choice.

Can't stand ELP, them and Rick Wakeman used to do my head in:shake::wagging: Too many notes for an old punk rocker like me aaarghh . Brain Salad Surgery indeed.

I don’t think Elphick was that bad. He had a poor run in side around the time RDM got sacked, but so did most players and once Bruce came in the keeper Gollini lost all confidence and that had an effect on the rest of the defence. He is not a great player but certainly deserves to have been given more of a go than he’s been given, wasn’t he captain at Bournemouth?

You kidding? That was the background music to the old VHS of Villa in Europe. Its also a big improvement on that Champions League style rip off that blasts out the tanoy usually.

Nah..Sounds like the closing title music from a 70's porn film.

Don't know what was wrong with Paranoid. That was soon binned

Elphick was probably the main target along with Gollini, most games he seemed to drop a clanger that cost us a goal. As Deano pointed out before, when a player has been out for a while people seem to forget his previous performances and think he is the answer to all our problems.

our problem seems to be the manager he doesnt know his best 11 .he needs to pick a back line and stick with it and let it build in confidance thats why we have pre season games i would like to see us play a 4-4-2 now we have two wingers but bruces trubble is he has too many players there that think they should be getting game time
i cant understand why we had such a weak side out in the cup .they all do it and say they are resting players . bull shit if a player needs resting 4 or 5 games into a season then they should get rid of them .would we have won that cup so many times over the years if we rested players i very much dought it

We get more games now, often 2 a week so players do need resting at times. It's also a question of style; when we play at a higher tempo as against Brentford it has an impact for the following game.

Re Elphick. He's still a better bet than Jedinak, who was awful in his last game.

The DJ bloke thought everyone was listening to it done his head in.

Funny that playing high tempo doesn't affect the next game of other teams that do it every game.
Teams like Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea just for starters and these are teams you'd expect there to be a few prima donna's in.
Anyway, isn't that what a large squad is for, if used judiciously, to give players a rest without upsetting the rythym of the team.
I would accept the argument more if we were three quarters of the way through the season but, we are just about one tenth of the season gone.
The only reason there can be, is that the over paid pricks, that we employ, are unfit and don't look after themselves properly.

Latest on loans, Moukoudi is at Bodymore for medical.
Tshibola to Kilmarnock and Green to Portsmouth.
Burton and Port Vale in for Lyden.
Hull have joined QPR in seeking loan of Elphick.
Several clubs show interest in O'Hare.

The chances of signing Southampton's leftback Matt Targett on loan have disappeared with Middlesborough signing Sotons Sam McQueen on loan.

Moukoudi back in France training on his own

Strange that no decision has been made after he was apparently flown over for talks. If he's not that keen or doesn't seem bothered I would move on and look elsewhere.
