The New Spurs.....

Each kid has their own station. Which has numerous pieces of equipment on. It was a covid safety measure which we have kept as it works well.

As today was strength and conditioning day it's a slower pace. So easy to chat. I chat loads of random crap with them. I didn't mention here. I said I read an article about Spurs.

Then just asked them what their opinion is on professional athletes wearing suits to games or events and would it have any impact on them for their teams results and morale.

I walk around to each station throughout the training session. So I don't shout out everything on a microphone. Lol

The coaches I WhatsApp in the group.

Nutritional advice from the right people will certainly help a player's performance.
I was jesting RD. You didn't need to give me a breakdown.

Personally I've always liked suits. There's no item of clothing that makes you feel as good as a well-cut, well-designed suit. It's the f...ing ties I've always hated. Nothing ruins a good suit like a tie. And they're a totally unnecessary, uncomfortable and pointless item of clothing.

Personal opinion, of course.

Paratici wears a tie and a woollen waistcoat under his jacket accentuating his belly. And we are meant to trust the man on dress sense. He has never struck me as a snappy dresser.

I didn't wear a tie on my wedding day because it ruined the suit.

I looked like something from Miami Vice. 🤣

Our players spend a lot of time together. Training, learning, eating, changing room banter. They are bonded already. They don't need a suit to reinforce it or enhance it.
There is a place for uniforms I agree in certain environments.
Agree, but do our players feel like they are at one of the best teams in the world? Do they have that pride? They should! We may have the best stadium in the world and the best training facility in the world but those are probably not intimate or personal factors for them. Cars and clothing are personal. Maybe we are overstating it’s importance but the cost of a bus and clothes is minimal and it can only have a positive impact imo.

The suits concept is interesting. The choice of suit manufacturer is actually ironic when you think about the different Spurs and Hugo Boss histories.

What Ex talks about is exactly what Hugo Boss did for the Nazi's. By equipping them with their uniforms, he helped with the brand and sense of togetherness in their mission to try and eliminate the Jews.

Then it took several decades of denying their history before the company made the statement containing "express its profound regret to those who suffered harm or hardship at the factory run by Hugo Ferdinand Boss under National Socialist rule".

That was closer to the turn of this millennium but still over 20 years ago. As someone that has been called a nazi for wearing the Boss brand, I obviously connected the ironic dots. I'm sure others have to.

I'm surprised they aren't Italian suits !!

Right so as I'm a fitness coach and part time football coach I have spoken to 6 coach colleagues.

5 Male, 1 Female. Two were/are international players in Rugby and hockey.

Not one of them think wearing a suit would make any difference to team bonding or team success. Everyone said they prefer wearing the sports coaching track suits because they are more comfortable and represent the same thing a suit would do.

As I have done some strength and conditioning with some of the students this evening I asked another 6 people the same question. 4 girls and two boys aged 17/18.

All of them want to be a sports professional of some sort. Hockey is massive here, as is cricket.

Only one said they would want to wear a suit. I asked him why, and it was purely for a vanity reason. Nothing to do with team bonding, winning mentality. Just pure ego.

The others again said they prefer the training gear or actual kit as they are more comfortable and are designed for what they are training for.

As I said "a load of bollocks ", mate.

Did you ask them about a uniform or suit? It is not about the suit.

Yes it is about the suit as that is what spurs players wear. That was the question put forward by EX. He said it made us stand out and I said it didn't make a difference.

If you had read that you would have knew where I was coming from.

I don't understand the whole suit thing. Wearing the matching tracksuit will bring the team spirit of being together just as much as a suit would. Maybe a suit helps in the sense of feel good look good. But then you have to question comfort. Is sitting on the bus to a game more comfortable in a suit or tracksuits? Having players uncomfortable for a few hours before a game.

If it is to help to create a professional mindset then that only works if you are somebody who views a suit as being professional. Many people don't. That's what people seem to overlook when it comes psychology, that you have to really buy into it and believe in it for it to properly will work.

If you wanted to have your clothes to make a match day difference then you could simply have a different tracksuit for training days versus match days.

I can't help but feel like this is more of a branding push than anything else.

That article is mostly a load of guff that doesn't really say much. Why not tell us the details of the upgrades to the bus? Surely if we're using it to get to matches it's the marginal improvements on the internal set up that will make big differences? Sports journalists really do get away with not delivering much in terms of worthwhile information.

If you check back over the videos of the team arriving at the stadiums you will find that they don't generally wear suits but T shirts or polo shirts with a navy bomber jacket. Yes it is 'uniform' but certainly not as formal as a suit would be.

So the article really is a load of bollocks then!
