Sunderland vs Latics

Look at Charlie Wyke's goals on youtube and the service he gets
from his team mates, all the teams he played for give him a lot of
good crosses and passes to enable him to score goals.

If we don't give him the same type of service, whose fault is it?

Radical thought try and offload him before the window shuts cos Leam will never play to his strengths

If we don't give Charlie Wyke the right type of service, and play to his strengths
....(we haven't done so far)......then you have to ask.... why did we bother signing him?

I just wonder how often our recruitment team had watched him play before we signed him. Most of our fans can already see (after 1 League game and a few pre-season friendlies) what sort of player he is and what sort of service he needs. Could our recruitment team see that? .....Or didn't they watch him very much before signing him?

Or Leam play to his strengths. Failing that get rid of the idiot whose idea it was to sign a player with limited abilities if indeed it pans out his abilities are limited.

Surely It takes time to integrate a new team ?
As the season moves on players will get used to each other and gel as a team.
Sunderland sat back in the 1st and 2nd half with 11 men inside their own half. It takes patience, confidence and coaching to break down such a low defensive block.
Tis the start of a new season and as we have seen before .... rebuilds take time.

Gary Caldwell spoke about getting it right with Will Grigg. It took time but the work paid off.
Sunderland managers' should take / have taken note ?

“But the more we worked with him and got to know him and got to understand what he needed we then went to playing with a number ten who could supply him balls down the side of defenders, and two wingers who can put crosses in the box.

“Once we worked that out and understood what Will needed to show off his talents, after Christmas he was phenomenal. His goals were the difference for getting us promotion. Even before that, to be fair to him, when he wasn’t scoring goals, he was still a fantastic player for the team, always worked hard, pressed from the front and always put a shift in.

I think it's pretty absurd to even consider this, honestly. A well regarded staff group couldn't see something in an in-depth analysis, meanwhile any random on their couch can see it just watching a single match while having a beer?

There was plenty of thought in this signing. Let's see what was Leam's plan. As far as we know he could be expecting 2 or 3 first team players to complete his puzzle.

I personally think it's a waste to sit Humphrys but that's another story.

I hope you are right about that. Reading between the lines, I suspect that you may have some kind of inside knowledge and/or contacts within the club?

hahaha .....I have actually attended all of our pre-season games (apart from Oldham away behind closed doors), and was at the SOL. I don't watch from my couch.

If you do have inside knowledge....then your post has given me some reassurance about our recruitment processes.

We've all read stories in the past of some clubs signing players (usually foreign players) when they've only seen them play once or twice.....and they've signed the player based mainly on his stats/numbers.

Ah it wasn't aimed at you specifically. Glad you can be there for the team.

No way man, I live in the other side of the planet hahaha. Sorry to disappoint.

Point remains, though. It's all the bare minimum anyone should expect.

I know what you mean about Humphreys. Play both together alongside each other and go for it. Could compliment each other just as long as we had someone putting in the crosses.

Opening game last season ... a loss, and players/manager/team all being written off. Whinges about signings not being made ... no wingers or CBs ... Bobby Madeley the referee ... not much changes, does it.

Enjoy the game everyone.

One point today then is an improvement on last seasons opener isn't it.

Really enjoyed the game as well. (y)
