Summer transfer thread

Thanks KDZ for compiling all that info. I'm excited by this one. Pace and Power won't go amiss. Hopefully we get the deal done. I presume he will be expecting to be a first team player so will be I teresting to see if we do with 3 at back or if he replaces Tendai. Will be a long season so plenty game time

Isn't that where Kerr excelled last season though?

It depends on how Kerr adapts to the step up but i think playing 3 at the back the higher up the leagues you go you need the left and right sides CBs to be able to play like full backs. I think Nyambe is a perfect fit for that while Kerr is more of a traditional CB.

I don't think Nyambe will come in and replace Kerr there now, but i think over the season if we need to push for a goal Kerr will be subbed off Nyambe moved to right sided centre back and a midfielder like Lang / Power / McGrath will be pushed to right wing back. We'll slowly evolve from there.

I think we've already been experimenting with this idea with Bennett at left sided centre back, so i think it's the direction we'll likely move in on both sides.

It's a lot of money for a player who doesn't seem to meet the work permit requirements.

But maybe as the goalkeeper is a specialist position and doesn't really get subbed on and off in games the fact that he's been on the bench for the majority of national team games for a few years is something we can try and appeal.

But if we do sign him and he has to go on loan to get a work permit then it shows that Talal is playing the long game.

Can’t see the point

Some one needs to tell them that Wigan are not a premier league club

Where has your theory we will sign Gad and put him out on loan come from, where would he go on loan, why would playing him at another european club allow him to qualify for a work permit in this country.

Am i wrong in thinking he would still need to meet the work permit regulations through his international record.

I would have thought any deal to buy him would be resultant in him gaining a work permit first.

It was written in an earlier article from an Egyptian site translated from Arabic. It basically said we were aware a work permit could be an issue so purchasing him then loaning him to another European club with less strict work permit rules could help us get him get into the UK in the future. It might not be true but it seems to be a viable option if we can't get the permit.

Over the last couple of years the UK work permit requirements switched from just being 75% of internationals to a points system where you need 15 points to get one. Points are accumulated based on a number of different factors the league you sign from, internationals, number of games you play, how high up the league you finish etc. The issue is Egypt is ranked as one of the lowest tiers so he can't get enough points coming from there without being a regular international. But if he moved to a suitable mid tier European league - that could get him sufficient points to come to the UK. But i believe there are grounds to appeal which maybe we believe we could do successfully.

Someone posted a link to the full work permit rules earlier in this thread, it's worth digging out or looking at Google for as it's a lot more elaborate than it used to be.

If we are going through this much trouble we must think this lad is going to be a world beater who will go on to have massive sell on value.

I've never heard of him prior to him being linked with us so i have no idea, but someone at the club must think he's going to be a star.
Yes obviously but it won’t be the manager that’s for sure

If you bothered to do any sort of research you'd know that work permit rules regarding footballers are far stricter in this country compared to other European countries.

He won't gain a work permit to play for us unless we have contacts in very high places as he does not meet the points requirements. He is uncapped for his country and plays in a band six league (the lowest band). Either he gets signed and loaned out to a club in a different league with a higher band which allows him to accumulate enough points across the coming season to gain a permit for next year, or the deal won't happen.

I'm not sure about paying £1.5m on a player with no English football experience, no work permit and playing in a position where we have a decent couple of options in Jones and Amos.
Feels silly playing the long game to see how he improves when there is a need to improve now.
If he does come in and becomes the next De Gea I will happily eat my words.
