Staying Up Thread 2019/20

This BBC article has a bit about how many points you need to stay up. 36 is the critical number; you have a 2:1 chance of survival. 35 the odds are just in favour of relegation, anything lower and you're doomed.

So we need 11 points from 10 matches. That's very doable; we've been hovering at that sort of level (point per match average) all season. There's no doubt we can do it. So long as we've not just entered a remorseless dive to the bottom.

Missing the point mate their heads have gone we've lost the last 4 games, Covid19 is our best chance of staying up

The boys have put such a lot of effort into this season. I feel that it was only a
Matter of time before we got back on the winning track after a few results recently unfortunately didn't go our way. It is with great sadness that the premier league has come to a halt due to the pandemic nature of covid 19.
Nevertheless I feel sure that Dean and the team will recover from this enforced period of inactivity and next season achieve.......
Oh hang on.....it's only been SUSPENDED you say.........

Don't think the heads have gone. Leicester was no worse than what Leicester did to us in December and we recovered from that. They certainly hadn't given up in the cup final.

I do wonder if we aren't very good playing away matches in miserable weather conditions, enough to tip the balance. Applies to Bournemouth, Southampton and Leicester.

I dont think the players are confident enough or PL experienced enough to go away from home and get a win yet. We have been decent at home all season when we have everyone supporting them, that's why I wouldn't rule us out of getting enough points to survive from our home games. Who knows, if we played the game in hand, we might be sitting pretty in 16th right now.

We are playing ALOT WORSE the last 3 months than we did the first 3 months. In fact the difference is massive. But let's look on the positive side and say we would match the result of when we played the fixtures we have left when we were playing better.....

Wolves 0 pts
Liverpool 0 pts
Manure 1 pt
Palace 0 pts
Everton 3 pts
Arsenal 0 pts
West ham 1 pt
Chelsea 0 pts
Sheffield utd 0 pts

That's 5 pts. And most of these teams have got better and weve got a lot worse. We have no god dam chance.

Coronavirus is our only hope.

So season could be cancelled. Liverpool allowed title. NO relegation.
Top 2 in championship allowed to be promoted. 22 team premier league next year with League Cup cancelled and 5 to be relegated.

What about those in the play off picture?. They will have a grievance with this.

There is no alternative than to see the season out whenever that will be. Otherwise there are too many variables.

It starts getting messy if it extends beyond the end of June as some players' contracts expire then.

"Instead of any teams being relegated, the Premier League could expand to 22 teams for one year."

“One proposal that could be made would be for the top two in the Championship, currently Leeds and West Brom, to be promoted and for 22 teams to compete in next season’s Premier League,” the Telegraph reported.

“The EFL Cup would be postponed for one year to allow extra space in the fixture list and five clubs, instead of three, would be relegated at the end of the season.”
There could also be an expanded qualifying phase for the Champions League."
