Are you from Connemara or there abouts?

I've been there a few times. It's spectacular in the summer but it rained for the whole day every second day. I couldn't handle the darkness in the winter.

No I am about an hour south of Dublin that whole area tends to get the least amount of rain "sunny south east".

Yeah Connemara is pretty spectacular, I'm lucky the weather doesn't seem to depress me but life in Ireland has always felt bleak to me.

You could always kick the bucket with about 5 minutes to go of your last day of work.

that would be a big win for the Mrs if your employer have insurance in place

I've been aggressively paying my mortgage and it should be gone by the time I turn 40, is this the first step?

Yes, and the day you are mortgage free is so incredibly liberating. I'd recommend anyone thinking of spending big, to think first of using that money to pay off part of the mortgage

i'd echo this. The other thing is if you do pay a chunk of your mortgage off don't let your lender talk you into reduced monthly payments. Keep the payments the same and benefit from a shorter term and reduced compound interest.
