Promotion

We need quite a large clear out if we go up, we know from this season and last how many of our squad is not up to prem standard. If Emi goes with Max and skipp goes we have huge problems to resolve.
Pukki cannot be trusted to score enough goals to keep us up, and we will need a goal scoring proven no10 to play with him.
It will be so different again in the prem, playing without the ball rather than the current possession based game we currently play.
I really hope lessons are learnt and we sign a few proven prem players and a goalscorer, idah pukki huggil wont be the answer

Agree, but I bet it will not happen. We have a good championship side like we did before but we will need to tough and clear players out and get new ones in. For me pukki, hugill and idah will not be good enough front line for prem and the same with with Zimmermanns and we will need another central defender.

It will also be interesting to see what happens with the likes of sinani and soto

if we hear the words ‘self funded club’ from the Board or owners then we will know how much money will be spent on Prem quality players ......and that is next to nothing

Of course we all want promotion and are in great position to achieve that but in reality we are way short of a survival premier league squad and that is putting a bit of a downer on my excitement.

The club need to take action and not renew contracts of players who are not good enough for the premier league and start looking at better players to sign.

This time we will not even have promising younger players who may made the grade in premier league as 2 have already gone, one will definitely leave and final one may well go. If Emi goes and Skipp does not return we will be down to a squad not even good enough to win promotion yet alone survive in premier league.

The Smiffs will not spend any money and be happy to be relegated again and take the money to balance the books and start to kid gullible fans that we can start all over again.
IMO another immediate relegation would destroy all confidence in players and fans alike and be the start of a slide towards mid table without DF.

The same old shit will come out at the end of the season ....’we will not risk the future of the club ‘ ....’ our self funding model will not allow us to buy beyond our means ‘ and so on . Any thinking fan can see that without huge investment in the team (if we go up ) then with the players we have minus the loans and those who the Smiffs can’t wait to sell , then we will not stand a chance . The players who went up last time proved that !

Totally agree YB. We have to be realistic.

The time for Smiffs to sell was after last promotion.
If we get promoted they will selfishly cling on to power again knowing full well that that do not have adequate finance to retain premier league status.

IF they had sold 2 years ago, enforcing a new stand and new players from
a lower sale price ( as they do not need the money ) and due to lack of crowds for a year, a new stand would be well on the way and most of the squad remaining and added to.
As a fan and in Smiffs position that is what I would do as preferring to support a Premier League club rather than own one that cannot stay there.

I agree entirely. We already tried our possession based game and it will never work in the Premiership. All of the opposition are too good to allow us our game. Here lies our problem, the players we have as a collective can only play this way so if we are serious about staying up, we have to purchase Premiership players who can adapt to the various styles they will face. It is the reason the type of player we need, costs so much money. The couple of eligible players we have or had will leave or have left. Unfortunately, when our model is pick up bargain basement players and sell at a profit it will be impossible to avoid coming straight back down.

Kev.
Spot on. It all comes down to spending power and lets say we do go up with Brentford and Swansea, they will both spend more and have more suitable players for the premier league than us.
I watch every MOTD and MOTD2 and if we than think that Brighton, Palarse, Burnley, Southampton and Newcastle are poor, think again. They are poorer than the top 10 teams but still way better than we will be following the summer transfer window.

Been to Stockport County a couple of times , ........ and once in the great 2009/10 season when Holty and Cody Mac sealed a a win . It was mad in that open end that day !! Happy days !

That open stand! They could have put us under cover alongside the pitch as it was touch and go as to whether it would rain. BTW. the ground was on the flight path for aircraft landing at Manchester Airport.

If you accept relegation from the Prem., then we should loan out our players and get some players in on loan that nobody ever heard of / sign for one season from park football.

As a result we could save £75m to £80m in player wages (assuming the loan fees received cover the current players wages while playing a season at other clubs).

Then we have the fee from the upcoming sale of Aarons £35m - £40m. to add and then we could return to the Championship.

Enjoy!

Delete this before Delia gets wind of it.
She'll think it's a good idea.

If we have learned any lessons from our last foray into the Premier League, we should not be relegated immediately. Indeed, if we can use the increased finances wisely, we should be able to establish ourselves as a decent PL side.

We'll know in about 13 months...

13! Arrrgh :slap:

Apparently DF has learnt from his last foray Rex.

Tighten the defence was his mission this season - oh - and for next season score goals Mt Pukki for the whole of the season not the first two weeks and dry up

Well that's sorted, here we come - need to save the crown jewels from eloping though. Seems pointless to have learnt all the togetherness and tactics just to have them split asunder for the sake of the big boys with only a limited pre-season to blood new incomings

Funny to see jacob murphy and lewis both on newcastle bench today and with a good chance of swapping places with us next season. Amazes me why some players go to certain clubs that its obvious its not a great move for their carrers
