Olympic Games

And one of GB's silver medallists in the men's relay has been suspended for a failed drugs test, two illegal drugs reported to have been found in his sample.
Hardly ever is someone cleared following 2nd test check (as it's same sample used).
So one less silver medal for GB and one athlete has lost his three teammates their silvers.
Prat ! His poor teammates

Prat ! His poor teammates

Presuming the other three are clean, he really has betrayed them badly.

But equally this brings into question the running of UK athletics, certainly at this Olympic level. Should they not have been testing all team members repeatedly and thus found out this individual before he got as far as appearing on the starting line?

Athletic involved has denied he's a cheat.
Of course several possibilities.
He has knowingly been cheating (a la Lance Armstrong and many others).
Or he has knowingly taken some muscle building supplements (and no end of athletes take all sorts of 'supplements') and one or more of those contained the prohibited substances, in which case he has gained unfair advantage due to extra muscle build up.
Or someone gave him something the contents of which he did not know. Again, no defence I'm afraid as responsibility for all such consumption still lies with the athlete concerned and the unfair muscle advantage was still a benefit he used to gain those extra hundredths of a second that mean the difference between a medal and nothing.

According to David Walsh, who is good on these things, Udah took a supplement which listed only permitted substances. Unfortunately not all the ingredients were listed, including the offending stuff. Careless rather than cunning, you would think a top level athlete would be particular about these things. It'll still lose the medal though.

So a failure of both the athlete and his coach to validate all the substances he was taking.
And let's be clear, all these supplements are artificial products designed to enhance performance unnaturally. So athlete concerned can have no complaints that he has consumed prohibited substances, without them he may well have been slower and not won his soon to be forfeited medal.
