Odd random stuff

Naughty, naughty TB.

Surely, it's down to our capitalist employers (ex nationalised industry in my case) who decided to contract out ...... not us as individuals.

It's a good thing though that we're all very conscientious and keen to make sure we're going to make sure we pay our full dues.

By the way ....... John Major speech today ......... Bravo Sir.:clap::clap: Such a refreshing change to hear someone speak with such authority, clarity and integrity.

Sorry mate just couldn't resist.

In all frankness your employer should not have contracted you out without your consent. You must have given your approval at some time for them to do this.

As far as John Majors speech goes, I think that people who live in glass houses should not be throwing bricks. Cast your mind back to his premiership and just remember how much sleaze he oversaw, Mellor and Lamont come to mind, plus his own misdemeanour with his affair with Edwina Curry. He has always had a vendetta with BJ since the days when Johnson was foreign correspondent in Brussels and criticised his government regularly in his reports.

I love how these people bang on about respecting democracy, when they were all too happy to ignore it when it came to implementing the EU referendum result.

It's that long since, I've forgotten ,,, but you're probably right.

I get what you're saying, but most of the sleaze at that time was related to personal activity, as opposed to government actions.

You're again probably right re the vendetta ... but then again, Major's probably right too, insomuch as Johnson was probably writing as much bollocks back then as he speaks now.
;)

The other thing that was brought home was the standard of the rest of the cabinet .....Whitelaw, Howe, Heseltine, Clark ........ compared to Patel, Raab, Shapps, Willaimson and Truss ...... who I believe has cocked up again in Ukraine. Who'd 'a' thowt ?!

Have a read of this article in the mail online " How John Major's Tory government was rocked by sleaze scandals | Daily Mail Online " It sets out a number of reasons why Major is seen as a complete hypocrite for his speech today.

Another article shows the timeline of sleaze for Major's government then followed sharply by Blairs.

To be honest, I think that article supports what I said re the personal affairs. To Major's credit, he did at least try and do summat about cash for questions ....... not sweep it under the carpet like Johnson (Paterson), or worse, change the bloody rules to make it OK !

So the sleaze is ok if you admit to it?

or try and fix it, like BJ.

Just added a further link to my previous post, have a look at that. It further highlights my case that politicians of all sides are privy to bending and breaking the rules for their own benefit and why I trust none of them.

I’ll let you know but on the gov web site on my account I can pay catch up until 2027. And I’m 65 in March

From my experience the website is inaccurate.
It originally advised me that I would get the max, when I phoned and checked, they recalculated to a much lower sum, I've been paying top up for about 5 years

No, that's not what I was saying. I was meaning that most of the sleaze under Major was personal ie affairs, and with regard CFQs, it was addressed immediately.

I'm in no way defending it, merely recognising the differences between the two governments. One has broken the law on at least one occasion remember.

Sorry mate, I was simply pointing out that applauding Major's integrity is in my opinion misguided. The guy knew what was going on and was having an affair of his own for four years whilst in office so his integrity is in serious doubt.

In my mind this is simply Major having his day and returning the compliment.

Just a thought, and no doubt I will be slated for it, but it seems to me that those of us with capitalist leanings have fully paid our NI over the years thus helping the NHS, Pensions etc.

Whereas those dedicated socialists among us opted out of paying their dues for the pursuit of private pensions thus depriving the system they value so much of the cash for it to operate.

Now I think it's time I donned my tin hat and ducked back down into my trench. :tank:
I will bite

Damn, I wish you had told me how to avoid paying for NI in my salary for all those years, when I worked for commercial companies and in the education sector.

Are private pensions only available to socialists. Not in my experience, but then I am not a socialist. Do you mean the Stakeholder Pension?

I think you misunderstand the contracting out of NI (lower NI contributions, not zero NI contributions) for a lower State Pension/ supplemented by company pension thing. I am pretty certain that I worked for a couple of private companies that did the contracting out thing.

Possibly your virtuous post suffers from misunderstanding. Walgarth appears to have been caught by the contracting out thing, and he is possibly the 3rd richest on here with his property empire.😀

You are under the illusion that I have misunderstood NI contributions, which I have not. I am fully aware that it is a reduction and not a complete cop out. My point was simply that taking a sample from those of us on here those with the political left leanings seem to be the ones that opted to take advantage of lower NI payments, that would be the ones who claim to support a state funded NHS but by opting out are depriving the government of the funds to support it. :hmmm:

That's not really fair though, is it TB. The opting out was only on the proportion of the NI payment which covered the state pension element. We were still paying the balance of the NI which covered NHS funding etc.

Not like someone of a right leaning to misrepresent the facts. :whist: :halo:
;)

I suppose so, if you want to see it that way. (y)

OK, True.
When you were signing the forms for a company pension when you were 21 did you either understand or care what it all meant.
I guess we were given a choice, back in the day, I can't recall this.
It was the government's scheme, as you know.
But as we have seen, contracted out equals a lower pension. So what was your point about parity?

TBH mate it was a tongue in cheek post, simply pointing out that from what I saw on here those of us with left leanings were opted out whereas those on the right weren't. There was no ulterior motive and certainly not questioning the wisdom of providing oneself with a decent pension in later life.

I hope everyone has managed to sort themselves out and have the funds to have a long and happy retirement.

I did see you were taking the mick, and in no way was it offensive.
I am just glad that my stamp was paid when I was on the dole 😀

Daleks. Perhaps you could offer the humble crofter and mrs murrell some guidance on how state pensions are paid from national insurance and how it works. They seem a tad confused, though that itself isn’t really anything new I suppose.

Would love to share your joke.
However, not a clue what you are on about.
Additionally, you would appear to be a bigger expert on the 1/30th stuff.
