Match Thread: Lincoln City v Milton Keynes Dons

Speechless. Terrific effort but why are we so keen to implode ourselves and give games away. I can’t quite put my finger on it but we seem to have players this season who do not know how to play off the ball and get themselves into decent positions. We have players who don’t know how to attack the ball in the opposition penalty area and we have players who want to walk the ball into the goal. We have players who get caught in possession so often or simply give the ball away because they can’t release a simple pass. There’s just so many silly, basic errors by players who should be above that. Really, really frustrating because you just know that’s two games in a row we should have won, but we’ve picked up one point when it should have been six. Never mind, Rotherham next 😳😱

Let's not think we were unlucky there. We were gifted a two goal start and had ONE shot on target the whole game (Maguire's free kick). MKD had 8 shots on target.

Some decent midfield and wide play at times, but defensively we were awful.

1st half turned out to be just a mirage, end of the day 9 shots and only 2 on target, with 1 being from the penalty. We got in some good positions but out final ball is terrible, no one gambles on crosses, bramhall cant cross, adeluken just strolls around. That second half was a joke of a performance.

So no shots on target at all from open play, piss poor

Fiorini should have hit the target... I know the ball was slightly behind him but that's a very poor miss that probably cost us the match

I obviously like Appleton but something is wrong if at 2-0 up we are trying to force the ball into fiorini's feet in his own half with players around him. He isn't Tom Hopper.

If they got one back you knew we were screwed, we said it at half time. Team doesn't have the 'minerals' this season and isn't good enough to get away with it in an attacking sense.

They did their best to help us win and we still found a way to make a mess of it!

It was obvious after an hour the tide was turning and nobody on the pitch or more concerning , off it did anything about it. If Appleton uses the young side excuse today he's having a laugh. He should've seen it coming and had us slowing down the game with little fouls and a bit if time wasting to kill their momentum. Bridcutt is our most senior player and he lost his cool, a great example to the younger players.

The substitutions were baffling, Fiorini and Bishop were causing them problems, Maguire was blowing out of his arse. Sorensen did his usual and gave the ball away for their goal.

This one is well and truly in Appleton for me. There's no way we should have lost that game, you could see the players didn't know whether to keep attacking or play it safe and in the end they did neither and MA wasn't able to influence them.

Bridcutt's yellow card was an unbelievable level of dumb, late in the game you could tell he didn't have the legs but also couldn't stop their breaks for fear of a yellow card.

Let’s put the game in perspective perspective. Our two goals came from an own goal and a penalty. We created some great chances yet many of our players have totally lost confidence in front of goal and cannot score from open play. And at the back there there is always the gift of a mistake on offer.

We may stay up, but only just because there are enough sides even poorer than us.

'No shots on target' is misleading... we created lots of chances that only needed a final touch. We really should have scored a third or forth with our forward play ~ the problem is the individual errors at the back. Despite being good players TJ, Monsama, Bramall, McGrandles and Bridcutt are all very error prone..and far more this season than last.

Decent in parts today but yet again the midfield goes missing when the going gets tough. Bridcutt should have been bollocking Fiorini to get back before their second but he failed to show the leadership or organisation that a captain should do.

We were gifted an early lead, toiled away pretty well to keep it intact to half time. Midfield then went AWOL. Comedy of errors. Despite effort in getting the ball down and forward, we didn’t test the keeper between the 9th and 70th minutes. Not good enough. Especially against an MK Dons team that do give a lot of possession away. There were a few positives, but we have too many players that aren’t up to the standard that we aspire to be at. Any confidence that the players and supporters had would have leaked away after that second half.

Why did MA take off our three best players? An unfit Scully for a firing Bishop, the mediocre Sorensen for a Fiorini at the top of his game, and inexperienced Draper for an Adelakun having his best game for ages? Baffling.

At the moment it's hard to see where we get a point from, yet alone stay up. We had so much go for us in the first ten minutes today against a playing style that suits us more than any other and still cocked it up.

I know the model but I think in reality we need to spend money on a couple of dependable professionals to bail us out. Young kids aren't going to save us this time, not got the character in the side.
