I did a five year toolmaking apprenticeship at IMI, and after that only four years in the trade before packing it all in.
The vast majority of my time after that was spent in the insurance industry where I was home based. I cannot imagine any other way of earning a living that involves going in to one place, although its the norm for most.
My daughter is in sales and has now been put as home based and her sales figures have improved, so much so that the boss is considering the option of home based in future.
If companies in some industries trusted their staff a bit more home working oportunities are there for a lot more people than currently do it.
My daughter doesn't work as such now as she has the 3 little ones but her first real job after uni was as a fundraiser for a charity, There were only about 8 or 10 of them but they had an office in Great Charles Street, now how much that must have cost lord knows but it was surely money that could have been saved by working from home and perhaps having a meet up once a week in a Pub or something. Their boss travelled from Nottingham by train every day all paid for from charity funds (but that's for another thread)
The money, time and cost to the environment that could be saved is there for all to see. There must be millions like this especially in big cities
