Lets face it Pompey are, and have been for the majority of this season, getting relegated once more.
A place in league two, at best, is where we are headed at the end of this season – no not 'defeatist' or 'negative' just a realist...
That, in itself, does not 'worry me' too much, I can deal with us playing in the basement level of the football league as our fall from grace in the football league pyramid is complete but I cannot hand on heart say I am 'looking forward to it'.
I say this as a friend of mine text 'I'm looking forward to league 2 mate' with them hoping (if The PST gets control) 'the trust can do a deal on season tickets like Bradford' – what that deal is I do not know, but would hope a good deal can be done nevertheless!
Relegation to the championship from the premier league saw me say I 'welcomed this' and 'looked forward' to it. I truly hate the premier league and all it stands for, so genuinely was not disappointed to drop from that level although the championship was not the 'real football' I was longing for.
Sadly the championship is following in the trend, on a smaller and watered down scale though, of the premier league. Now, league one was where it was really at and I was looking forward to that...
Has this proven to be the case?
In all honesty no – that said the continued off the field bollocks does little to inspire me with much these days and my interest levels are diminishing all the time, not that my love for Portsmouth Football Club is any less mind!
I will look forward to the football, whatever level once the off-the-field problems are resolved – and pray that once and for all they can be – but all the while that remains, as it has for years and no degree of certainty can be placed on our long-term future it is hard to 'enjoy' or 'look forward' too much.
As it stands, if I am honest, my away travels will continue to be few and far between. I do not mind the defeats, not that I like them, but the manor of so many of them this season left a sour taste in my mouth and left me begrudging the time, effort and money I had put into going. I am beginning to enjoy things again, seeing players give their all and play like they want to be here but I do not want to endure another season where the squad, forgetting the side, is being chopped and changed all the time!
I just want a 'proper club' again, run by proper people in proper ways and no more of those bloody ridiculous deals like the one with Kappa that has seen the club collect something like 2% of the money from merchandise sold! 'I will buy a shirt as it puts money back into the club', yeah right, that £30 quid or whatever it was, crap football or crap players not giving a flying one or not, would have been better spent on matchday tickets as it turns out, but I digress...
So no, 'looking forward to league two' is not something I can say that I am, but I sure as hell will enjoy this a hell of a lot more if we can get things sorted out, start seeing us fans treated as such and not mugged off and see us able to put together a proper side that can be competitive and will be competitive with those pulling on the famous blue shirt giving it their all as those we currently have – although I would suggest it will be all change again this summer – are starting to do now that it seems the remaining mercenary hangers on have slung their hook!
Yep, I know some might say 'just having a club' should be something to be thankful of, and yes they would be right but what we have now is ONLY Portsmouth Football Club in name and as much as it would pain me not to have it any more I think I would almost not have one that have to endure another season of misery (again not results wise) like we have for so many years.
We have been a shambolic mess for years, we are a laughing stock – as someone said in the forum back along 'doing a Portsmouth' has become an expression, and it is not one I like to hear.
Please, please let this end and whilst I will not 'look forward' to league two I will, all being well, be able to actually enjoy it...
PLAY UP POMPEY!
