They were asked if Sports Direct paid for adverting at St. James' Park and it was confirmed that they do not. John Irving said that Sports Direct were using space that would be otherwise unused but didn't say how hard the commercial team were trying to find other (paying) advertisers;

"The cup competitions are not a priority for the club. They are used to be able to look at our squad as a whole. The focus is on a top ten league place because the financial rewards are so great;"

credit to them for finally being upfront but that says all that needs to be said

I am sure nothing in there surprises anybody, but there is no more doubt, these answers come from people working at the club.

No credit whatsoever in my eyes Mac - they look at the squad - then do nowt about strengthening it. Just what part of that defeat against Brighton last seaosn - or any other defeat in a cup with a squad side - or any of the many defeats of the younger and reserve sides - are they still pondering over before they realise not very much is very good on the footballing side at SJP?

it was tongue in cheek Taff.......maybe I should have said it was nice to see them being honest for a change

Had a read through it. Is there any way this can be disseminated and firmly implanted into the brains who think ashley has the best interests of the club and it's fans at heart and nor merely the bank balance. This is evidence if anymore were needed that all ashley cares about is the bottom line.

So if he isn't taking any money out of the club then where the fuck is it and why can't we compete with Carlisle and Sunderland? Yet more bullshit now even admitted by the club and STILL people turn up in their droves. Spineless.

Well mid table mediocrity is the story of the day but at least we know where we stand now. It's up to each individual whether that's good enough for them. It's not the dream I bought into in 1972 so I will continue my exile until there is a change in ownership.

A football club that has no interest in winning a cup? I'm sure the players will be firing on all cylinders tonight after that.
Putting any energy into this football club is a complete waste of time.
Any football team at any level gets damp at the thought of big cup games, isn't it the point of playing the game?

It's just fatty's business model of "If I want it, I get it on MY terms". Saying money was there but we felt we were being quoted prices that were inflated. That's how the market works, you pay what the SELLER is willing to accept, not what you're willing to pay. what's more comical is they expect prices to drop again, which is senseless because the tv money will just increase and so will transfer fees. The admission that top 10 is the target with cups not a priority is also a shrouded warning not to expect us to build the side up, so yet again expectation management. We clearly need some more militant supporters in this fans forum to tell the club how it fucking SHOULD be. Is there anyway this board can get a seat on this panel?

Didn't Pardew say last week that money would be available in January? Surely prices will be inflated then too as clubs don't want to lose their players half way through a season?

No change in the priorities then. Football, as is shown all over the world, is about passion and ambition. This owner gets a boner with the balance sheet.

I think he did OM yeah. And you're right prices probably will be inflated then for the reason you mention. In addition to that, if we're in the shit again like last season, clubs will know we're desperate and jack the prices up further

"The cup competitions are not a priority for the club. They are used to be able to look at our squad as a whole. The focus is on a top ten league place because the financial rewards are so great"

I can't believe they've actually come out and said this. I know it will take some sinking in with the Wonga crew, but just sit and think about this statement.

They do not care about winning silverware, in any shape or form. No league Cup, no Europa League, no FA Cup and obviously no League.

ALL they care about is making money. That's not just high on the priority list. It IS the priority list.

Nothing else matters to Ashley. Nothing.

No great cup runs, no fantastic match nights, no push for Europe, no barnstorming derby wins.

Staying in the Premier League is everything and everything. 17th isn't great, but it'll do fine.

They don't give a fùck about;

Winning matches
Playing well
Style of play
Winnings cups
Showing respect to the club
Showing respect to the fans
Honouring the history of the club
Honesty
Integrity

It's just one giant PLC now, and if that doesn't get people wondering whether they should go or not, I don't know what will.

Let's make no mistake. He's sticking it out to pick up £70million a year TV money for the next three years at least, and probably then some.

Football doesn't get any deader than not even wanting to win games. What is the point?

We don't need a voice on the panel TD. We need an empty stadium. The club have confirmed they no longer want to operate as a football club, just a company.
They're picking and choosing in which games to fully participate. Just like Brighton in January.
They couldn't give one fuck about supporters, all this fans forum shite and anything else they say is just like free food and drinks in a Las Vegas casino.
Designed to relieve people of their money.

Ashley likes to pick players up in January who will be out of contract in the summer for bargain prices. I expect we will be back in for Gomis at around the 2m mark.

That bit is just fùcking astonishing. Are they managing to say with a straight face that they can't get ANY companies to give us money to advertise in the spaces taken up by Shìte Direct.

We really are the biggest set of gutless, bell end fans in the country if we just let this carry on.

He's taking the piss on a monumental scale.

As a point here, the staff of the club in this fans forum are in relatively key positions. Are none of these staff locals who support NUFC? Are none of them worried about the direction the club is heading in? Surely they more than most fans are in a position to be in an influence for the good. That said knowing how fatty runs things, any sign of criticism or having any ambition WHATSOEVER will probably end in termination for the employee concerned.
