Coronavirus vaccine

Well, I think fewer people would be thinking about a foreign holiday if the UK wasn't such a fucking dismal shit hole at the moment. We can't go out anywhere as all known public places/commercial places are closed down. Nor can we socialise with anyone in public either. We can't even go and do anything as a family. It's like a 2 month long rainy day with f all to do. The weather is shite, so we can barely even go out side and enjoy parks/local fields with the kids like we did in the summer. This lockdown has been way worse than last IMO. Obviously it made Dry January really easy, but that's where the benefits end.

We've barely left the house in the 2 months - only for shopping and a few trips down to the local park when it wasn't hammering down with rain. My kids are now addicted to computer games, when previously they would spend virtually every waking hour doing sports. It's a sad state of affairs when we actually look forward to driving up to my father-in-law's flat in London for a few hours just for a chance to get out of the house. I hate the bloke but i'll even put up with his company in his tiny flat if it means breaking up a full on week of fuck all else to do. We are his support bubble, so we're allowed to go up there and help him out, before anyone asks.

Before that, we had a few weeks of kind of socialising but even when we were allowed to do a few things, it was under so much regulation it wasn't really anywhere near life as we knew it. It's been nigh on a year of this shit now and to be honest with the latest crap about new strains that the existing virus isn't as effective on, I simply cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel. Every time we get a small glimmer of hope, we hear about another mutant strain or something. Another expert comes out with more comments about keeping the lockdown on until june or something. It's really soul destroying, i am not surprised some people just want to get out of the country for a few weeks.

I only want the lockdown ended when it's safe to do so, but i have to say i bloody hope it's safe soon as this is sending me absolutely crazy now.

Add that to the fact I have had no job for over 3 months now, with my last contract cancelled the day before i was due to start because of the expectation of a recession due to coronavirus, my line of work is desolate at the moment.
Totally sympathise with all of that, esp the job situation and kids "locked up". My point was pressure to open up too soon would lead us into yet another nightmare lockdown and the last 3 months will have been for nothing. In and out is even more tortuous imo.

I hope the Government resist the pressure from the right wing nutters in the CRG to open up too soon again.
Why is it:
a) "right wing"
or b) "nutty"
...to want the economy to "open up again" ?

Actually I'll answer them myself.
Lockdown lovers have come mostly from the left. Labour here and the Democrats in the US.
"Equality of misery for all" is the aim.

And given their enthusiasm for ever more laws telling people which shops and car trips are "unnecessary", we now have the proof that the left are the opposite of "liberal".

So if the true liberals are "right wing", then sign me up ! ;)

So what about b)

The left's precious "public services" depend on taxation of people who are actually productive - and not just from a handful of billionaires as they keep suggesting.
Is it not "nutty" to reduce national income and therefore the means to support the NHS ?

Apparently the reason why incoming travellers could not be stopped was that :
"there's no evidence that it works".

So where is the evidence that Covid is spread via golf, or "unnecessary" shops or "unnecessary" car trips to watch seals or football spectators at 20-25% density (or at all) ?

Is it not "nutty" to shut down very low risk activities - based on no evidence ?

I think we have to look at other countries with lower death rates, who have come out of lockdown far earlier than ourselves (and maintained a low death rate). The fact that we are so far behind so many countries shows we have reacted to this very poorly.

As far as I can see the only good thing our govt has done is to get the vaccine sorted quickly - which to be fair is also a Brexit success story i dont think anyone expected... other than that, we seem to have been one of the worst to react across the world. Only a few countries like Brazil and USA (both led by COVID deniers) have been worse as far as i've seen. I, and many others are starting to get fairly angry that the lockdown is taking longer than it need have done. The hotel situation now for example, it's a great idea, which actually if they had implemented a year ago we might be in the same situation as many countries that did and are now in recovery.

Agree with almost all of that. Vaccine purchase and roll out a success. Not directly related to Brexit though as we were free to do that as members of the EU as specifically stated by the person who authorised the use of the vaccine. Agree with everything else. Virtually every move made by the government has been late and or half arsed. Worst of the lot was the f### up around Xmas and topped off with a special one day event for children to transmit any virus they might have picked up over the holiday period.

What was needed was a Prime Minister who could look straight down the camera and say, look, this is what is going to happen.
We’ve got one who goes blah blah blah and nobody takes much notice.
Xmas being a perfect example that lead to the latest spike.
I know an old Gills mate of mine back in Kent who had his entire family round for Xmas day because and I quote, Boris said it was ok.
Fortunately they got away with it, but what a risk they took because the PM said it was allowed.

A personal grumble, only a small one. I got a letter from the NHS inviting me to book a jab (I'm not 70 till June). It informed me that I needed my NHS number, which was usefully provided. It advised that I could wait to be contacted by my local GP services if I wished to be vaccinated via that route but that I could log on and book now to be done at a vaccination centre or local pharmacy. Could I buggery. I went through the process, answered all the questions and was told I wasn't in one of the groups currently being offered the vaccine. I am sat in my living room chanting " What a waste of money! What a waste of money".

I had similar from my doctors.
I got a letter inviting me to the Well Man Clinic and a number to call.
When I called it they told me that they are not doing it due to covid.
So, why send the letter out then I asked.
Deathly silence 😳.
I blame the government 😂

Got mine yesterday aged 61. Moved to a new practice this week rang on Wednesday to see if everything had gone through and asked about the vaccine.
”When do you want it done ?
?! er what about tomorrow ?
12.50 0k ?
My wife had it last week and she’s a year younger.
Luck of the draw and also how switched on your respective practice is in getting the supply. My old practice ‘piss up brewery organise a couldn’t ‘ rearrange, are way way behind according to the Dr. yesterday

I tried the 191 number and did the customary button pushing mery go round to arrive at my starting place. The number is now answering with the line " Sorry there is a fault"

I blame Brexit, the EU and Scally in no particular order. Not keen on conspiracy theories but I wonder if ifollow have passed my details on for a baiting. I am now at increased clinical vulnerability due to irritation.

Anyone that is over 70 but not had a jab yet can go direct to medway hospital today, sat and sun and have it done according to the text i just received.

Wife and I called in for jabs this Sunday coming (at least she will be getting a prick for Valentines day). Asked if they needed any documentation from us, they said no - have all our details on computer. Well done to the NHS for the vaccine program (probably being done so very well due to very little political or private sector interference)

Well said. Despite the odd tale of a problem there are now 13 million satisfied customers. That is a hell of an achievement.

Medway Hospital is offering walk-in vaccinations to over 70’s today until 7pm and tomorrow and Sunday from 9am to 7pm each day. No appointment necessary.

To help put that into context, Spain today reached 1 million patients vaccinated. Although it should be pointed out that here they're sticking to the original plan of giving the 2nd dose 3 weeks after the first, and given the shortage of supplies for the moment, prioritising the second dose to those who've had the first, rather than starting to vaccinate new people.

Currently 1 million have now had both shots, with a further 422,000 having had the first dose and awaiting the second. At the current rate they reckon it'll take over 4 years to vaccinate everyone :(

Either the website was overwhelmed, or suffering a glitch, or they read this board and read my grumble. Now booked in for 1st & 2nd jabs, 1st in a week. No idea when aany easing of restrictions will come but this has cheered me up a bit. Sheerness here I come!

did you say you are already booked in for second jab?

India started ramping up the production of the oxford vaccine in march 2020 based on the hope that the trials would be ok. This is the largest vaccine manufacturer worldwide. In parallel they stocked vials etc. Now supplying not only India but neighbouring countries. Going for 350m people covered in india within a few months.
