Chelsea v Tottenham Carabou Cup 2nd leg

Lamela is way more suited to a deeper role, behind the front line. That is where he has been good for us this season, before he got injured. If he can come deep and collect the ball in a bit of space he tends to make things happen. He's way more creative than people give him credit for and I will never and have never questioned his commitment to the team.

His commitment isn't the problem what follows is:

When/if he can become proficient in possession and keep the ball for more than a few seconds.

Eradicate the clumsiness that often sees him turning the ball over and then chasing around like a headless chicken, kicking all that get in his way to get it back.

Show an understanding of rudimentary things like knowing when to use his right foot instead of his left.

Until these problems and the frustrating things that derive from them are addressed, polished & fixed your argument carries little or no weight.

The first two points are the same thing so a repetition to pad out your argument. He receives the ball in congested attack areas so is going to be challenged. When he works from deep his retention and use of the ball is better as expected.

Using his left or right is his call not yours. He knows his potential success scenario using either. He is strongly biased to his left of course and he won't change that much now so you are asking the impossible. He can use his right but more so for shooting , not passing.

I don't mind him using the darker arts now and then. As Poch said, maybe we are too nice !!
