I'm a big fan of the Culture novels and The Wasp Factory. Those listed are all good, Consider Phlebas the best IMO, and The Alchemist also worth checking out.

My favourite Culture novel has always been Player of Games. I have read all his books at least more than once. Espadair Street is probably my favourite from his function line up.

Very interesting political history of 19th and 20th Century Germany as well as the football.

Thanks Temp - I read the ‘Pirates, Punks and Politics’ book on St Pauli and to be honest was a bit disappointed. Will look this one up.
