Bobby Madley returns

Have to disagree with you there oldgaurd. He apologised, offered to go on a 'thought police' course, he was not laughing 'at' the disabled person, it wasn't put in the public domain by him and was actually a gentle poke of fun at himself when you look at the context of the private message. It was a disproportionate punishment for a minor error of judgement.
Disproportionate for you but not for the referee association .

"... I find by sad Experience how the Towns and Streets are filled with lewd wicked Children, and many Children as they have played about the Streets have been heard to curse and swear and call one another Nick-names, and it would grieve ones Heart to hear what bawdy and filthy Communications proceeds from the Mouths of such... "

Robert Russel, 1695.

I think I went to school with some of those.

Unless of course you happen to be the person in the video, in which case (it is easy to construe) "I'm really shit, but not as shit as the person I have just videoed and taken the piss out of". Unfortunately, in today's digital age, so many people still don't understand that once they press send, they are no longer in control of 'context' or 'statement' or 'public consumption' and are therefore open to exactly this.

I'm sure he didn't think. But that isn't a defence for any of us.

And I say this as someone who habitually takes the piss out of everything and the more politically incorrect the funnier. But I am increasingly nervous (and therefore conscious) of the potential consequences.

That's why a quiet word in his ear about 'know your audience' was all that was required. The days of what goes on tour stays on tour are long gone.

What is Wokeness ?How do people become victims of it?
Where to start :grinning:
This is my most succinct take on it: The act of being very pretentious about how much you care about a social issue. Of course I recognise that is not the original usage and I have a little smile that the word has been liberated from the wokies and turned back on them. A natural bed fellow for the equally insidious virtue signalling.

Is it virtue signalling to accuse someone of virtue signalling?

If the person responsible is motivated to do so in order to bask in some reflected virtue by so doing, I would say so. Making comments to jump on a band wagon, simply look good or raise one owns personal profile/gain by using an issue are simply distasteful and hypocrtitical in some cases.

Well everybody today seems to identify with some sexual group or minority and is offended by everybody and everything they don't agree with nowadays!
Therefore I want everyone to know that I have now joined the modern way of thinking and although I am fat I identify as skinny therefore and henceforth I have become Trans-Slender.

Now we’re getting somewhere. Glad you’ve got the likes of Piers Morgan, Farage, Katie Hopkins, Laurence Fox, and Julia Hartley-Brewer under your definition of virtue signalling ‘wokies’

You're not fat, you're just 'under tall'.

Much like "disability porn", I guess. (At least I think that's what she called it!!)
Coined by a female disabled athlete (her name escapes me, but she is at the top of her sport), to indicate people getting a self- affirming kick out of proclaiming a disable person has "done SO well", when they wouldn't dream of saying the same of an "able" bodied person.

I'll give you Morgan and Hopkins (thoroughly unpleasant attention seekers). Fox likewise typifies the problem of actor luvvies being on (supposedly) serious political programs but in his mitigation he was only responding to the white privilege taunt so whilst I'm not interested in his opinions on non acting related issues, he was well within his rights to respond like he did. As for Farage whether you agree or disagree with his views he is a professional politician so pretty much it's part of his remit to push his views in return for votes on his policies. After all you would/wouldn't want to cast a vote for somebody whose policies and views were/n't transparent surely?
Edit - Julia Hartley Brewer, not familiar with her.
