FFP charges?

42 signings was ridiculous though. Even if we started off with no players in the squad we would only need 25 plus maybe 5 under 21 players. I really don't see why we signed Bowler and Hui-Jo simply to just loan them out again. Several of the others were replacements because the initial signings appear not to be up to it. Richards hasn't appeared once for us has he ? O'Brien, Bade, Shelvey, Lingard, Biancone, Kanuric, Ayew etc The fact we had Johnson, Yates, Worrall and McKenna should have reduced it by a few more too.
I agree 42 was too much but they were planning for two squads, one for relegation. Thus the purchase and loan out of players like Bowler and Hwang. They also suffered massive injury list at start of second window, thus purchasing of Wood and signing of Ayew. Not all signings come off and players thought of as excellent turned out to be below average or didn’t fit. Most clubs have 50% failure rate in signings.

Richards was a real negative. Not only because it has been a real problem position for Forest but it tied up so many resources. Williams Aina, Tavares, Niakhate, Lodi, Colback and Toffolo have all played at fullback as we play patch up with that position. Of the seven players named they total less than £20m in transfers.

Goal keeper was another probleM specialist position. We have had 6 players over the 20 months of being in premiership. I would say we remain in the market for both a left back and a goalkeeper.

I agree 42 is a ridiculous number particularly when only 30 would get in a squad. Circumstances of needing to go from 12 to 30 players plus the desire to have a significant championship backup squad, then the injuries and not all signings coming off forced, to some extent explain the over commissioning. It was a short term necessity.

Assuming survival, the removal of the championship squad, the vast number coming out of contract over the summer and an opportunity for settled planned purchasing, though robust will be more settled this summer.

To sum up. 42 was high but understandable given the circumstances and was a short term response.

Perhaps they asked Deep Thought how many players we needed.

This report from Leicester, plus comments from Palace, plus three promoted teams being in relegation, plus Burnley and Sheffield being hit for 5-0 and 6-0 repeated clearly shows the gap between championship and Premiership which isn’t good for football. Villa, Brighton and Newcastle are the only teams challenging the big 6. Villa and Newcastle only just stayed within financial rules. Neither could strengthen this Winter. Both require sales to drive purchases to any significant degree. Brighton have had to sell their best players and could easily topple with a poor run, injuries and negative confidence.

The championship will likely be very weak next season. If the three presently in relegation zone are relegated then not one will be strong favourite to return. The championship will be competitive but weaker. The three being promoted in 25/26 will be fodder.

The rules guarantee the big fish remain big and feed nicely off the best of the minnows. Big fish can cheat with impunity as PL will not challenge as they fear breakaway.

Did you enjoy the Man City dominance of Man Utd at weekend. As a spectacle it was fairly ordinary only kept interesting by Rashford goal. How about Arsenal dominance of Blades last night. Went and did dishes after 15 mins. No spectacle. Welcome to Premiership.

Premier League, not Premiership, FFS!
PREMIER LEAGUE. Jeez man.

Other than that, lovely post x

It is really worrying the gaps that are now being created.
it is clear that due to Everton & ourselves being pulled up - other clubs are now 'working' within the constraints - which is going to make EPL anti competitive very quickly. It will be like the top leagues across Europe - where we will see results and games like Blunts v Arsenal every week. That is not good for anyone.
At what point, does the EPL become just another league and the cash cow dries up?

Villa today announced losses of £120m. They are sailing close to the wind but are ok over rolling three years because of selling Grealish for £100m in 2021. Next year will be crunch year unless they break into Champions League. Even then it is not the complete answer as Newcastle have proven. The PL despera.telly needs a change to S&P rules. Comes all too late for Forest.

I hope De Marco is going to rip them a new one, and the IC can see that PL is not fit for purpose. I cannot see EM sitting back and accepting even a 1 point deduction without appealing and causing an almighty furore. And I hope he does

Much of the medias take and lack of sympathy for Forests case is the signing of 42 players over two windows. That sometimes mention without the signing of players we would have started the season with 12 recognised players and the quality needed addressing. They focus on the 42 as if it was profligate. Little is mentioned on how many were loans, frees or under £5m. Of the bigger money signings Frueler has been resold at a small loss, Mangala at a probable large profit. All the other big money signings could be argued to have added value. Awoniyi, Danilo, Murillo, MGW, Williams etc.
Yes, and no mention of the fact that we have sold 47 players and loaned 48 out over the two seasons.

Yes we have desperately tried to stabilize ourselves in the premier against all the odds for which we are going to get punished for. If Arsenal hadn’t taken their foot of the pedal last night against promoted Sheff utd it could have been 10-0!

I still think we know more than we’re letting on. Very short hearing, suggests they know there’s not much to talk about. We were in contact with the league all the way through. 3 points - thank you and we’ll just scrape through

Villa are going to be completely safe with the new CL format making it highly likely that the top 5 Prem teams will qualify. They gambled and they’re going to win.

Wolves accounts show losses of £34 and £46 m over last two years, but they reached this only by selling £44m of talent. If the first of three year cycle is very £25m they are in trouble.

Wolves made a 21m profit in the first year of the cycle.
They lost 43m and 64m over the last two years.
They have no margin for this season, things will get very tight

Brentford have survived by selling talent. They run a very small sqUad and is one of the reasons they have struggled mid season is Toney out ban, Mbuemo injury and Wissa AFCON. No quality replacement. I am not aware they have sold any big value players in last 18 months. The £30m bid for Johnson would be amortised over 5 years. Think they will have to sell Toney in Window to balance books. Wonder if clubs will be offering £20m and a bag of buttons in June.
