Wigan sporting company

If anyone put aside any personal bias, it's obvious if someone owned 2 clubs they will like both teams.

If one is playing in a final at Wembley and the other playing a home game at the same time - you go to the most important game. It doesn't matter which team is in the final, either way the final would be the game they'd go.

That's completely reasonable and after he has spent probably close to 10m by the end of his first month or so we shouldn't be questioning his motives or commitment - his financial investment speaks for itself.

Moving forward I'm not bothered how many Latics or Warriors games he attends as long as he run the football club well.

Just been some updates on companies house:

Benjamin Joseph GOODBURN who was put onto Phoenix 2021 Ltd has been added onto LENAGAN INVESTMENTS LIMITED.

Doing a bit of deeper digging Richard Ellis Bramwell, who resigned when Tom Markham became COO is now associated back with the club via WIGAN ATHLETIC A.F.C. LIMITED, has had a name change, but was the club ownership limited company under Phoenix 2021 LTD.

I wonder if they are going to remove the ground from Phoenix 2021 and move that under the Community Holdco 2023 company or leave it as is. The rugby's ownership structure looks way more simple as they have their training grounds under the same limited company that has existed since 1921.

There may be some cost savings that can be had by sharing some resources across the training grounds and trying to avoid duplication as much as possible, while at the same time keeping ownership of items separate.

Wigan Athletic boss on providing 'clarity' to new owner

Mike Danson on 'financial situation (that)

had run completely out of control'

Until Wigan-born billionaire Danson appeared on the scene,
there was a very possibility - more like probability -
Latics would have ceased to exist as we know it.

Bramwell never actually left ... he just (understandably in hindsight) resigned from the (Phoenix) board. It looks like he's happier to be associated with the new set-up.

It was a muted atmosphere at the JJB Stadium in front of just 12,181 - the lowest attendance in a League Cup semi-final since Stockport hosted Middlesbrough in February 1997

Aah, the old your shit support as well excuse which somehow provides comfort.

My mind always goes back to the Murrayfield final of about 2001 ish against red hot favourites Saints. 25,000 opposition fans had made the journey north to see the expected walkover...in truth it was a magnificent performance from Wigan to play them off the park and the 6,000 Wigan fans had a 🥳. On reflection it was embarrassing trying to explain where the fuck our support was that day. Ultimately it didn't matter but served to prove that Wiganers in general won't watch a losing team...if that makes any reading Warriors fan feel better about their piss poor support then so be it.

This is exactly what a lot of us were hoping when we got taken over last time.

Long term plans, sustainability etc.

From the article it looks like Maloney has put forward his understanding of how the football side works, and where he wants it to go. It also looks like Danson is aware he will be losing money, wants the club to get back to former glory's but will 100% not be Dave Whelan, at least in the short to medium term.

From the signings and movement of the club in the past few weeks, the actions would appear to match up with the words coming out. If Danson truly wants a self-sustaining successful football club fan ownership shouldn't be out of the question once we have a decent level of stability.
