In 2019 Afghanistan was the third biggest recipent of UK foreign aid, so the thieving bastard has probably had his fingers in the till.
This is the problem with foreign aid.

It used to drive the Americans nuts. They would pay some local militia commander a load of money to fight the Taliban and then they just wouldn't do it. When the Americans complained, the Afghans would tell them they needed more money and weapons and then, having got more money and guns, they still wouldn't fight the Taliban and would often fight the Americans under the cover of darkness.

I think they gave up trying to bribe local militia commanders in the end but not until a few billion dollars had been wasted.

Fools and their money, eh?

Sounds like a Batista/ Castro situation. Ghani was probably allowed to get out just like Batista was allowed to flee (in a plane) full cash and other valuables.

Strange you should mention that, because a couple of night ago I watched The Outpost on Prime, which was about as the name suggests an outpost set up by the yanks to reach out to the Taliban to try to bribe them into accepting the presence of the Americans in their part of Afghanistan, I think it was in the Hindu Kush.
What you describe was a part of the film, and it was funny because both sides knew what was going on, but both sides also know that central government in the US had set this money aside, and it was a game that was played out.

It seems to be the accepted way of doing things in various parts of the world when there is regime change.

How does her lawyers brain have anything to do with her?
I think it's undermining. Her entire case hinges on her being a more reformed character who was groomed etc. She then has a lawyer who is making light of the Afghan situation.

Certainly not good PR for his client. What an idiot.

Great for the Daily Mail, anything with Shemima Begum gets a lot of clicks. Not that I’ve any sympathy for her, but I guess you attract people like yourself judging from this lawyer

You'd think Labour would want to keep their mouths shut about Afghanistan, wouldn't you?

Hypocritical wankers.

Yep, posted over on US version of this.
Labour MPs yesterday, bunch of sanctimonious bastards, it was them who started it all, along with the Iraq war. All trying to outdo each other with their virtue signalling over how many refugees they would take.
Hate politicians. Self serving bastards.
First swinging off the lamposts come the revolusion.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has rejected calls to quit after claims he should have personally intervened to help evacuate Afghan interpreters.

When you see some of the scrapes these MPs get into you do have to wonder at the selection process.
