Got the nuance - it's a shame Nicola, her crew and supporters don't seem to !
For them it's 100% the de facto anthem followed by "ode to joy" with GStQ relegated to the margins as the Union flag has been North of the border 😁
Ask any Rangers fan - they are furious 😉

I think if I was part of a ("united") nation, where the national anthem expressly stated that I should be crushed, I'd be a little peeved.

You would be, perhaps - if as part of a ("united") nation you knew the words to other than the first verse - which I'm guessing 99% of folk (myself included) don't know and which are never sung (unlike FoS)

It sounds like you also see other countries (other than Ireland) as enemies of the UK. Like who? Germany? Russia? Argentina?

With your little history lesson, it's strange that you forget to mention Ireland being taken in as part of the UK in centuries previous.

I haven't a clue what point you think you're making through your references to participation in various wars ... though I think the contribution of all your family members.

If you think that the Republic of Ireland is our "natural enemy" then I genuinely feel sorry for you, to hold that much bitterness.

Bicky, you haven't said why you feel the RoI to be an enemy, nor have you said who our other enemies are. You brought it up. Not me. I'm not really sure why you think anyone would be able to grasp your reasoning.

Ireland used to be a separate country. Then the UK took it over. Then it was split in two. You seem to only want to acknowledge the final one of these points.

Of course, all of this is completely irrelevant as to whether or not James McClean should become a Tics player again. .

RoI haven't taken British lives ......... not in the last 70 years at least. It's people from NI.

As Daleks said, the French have taken British lives. The Americans too. Are they our enemy?

You started this silly discussion (re wars and enemies), and based on your first post, it didn't sound as if you were in favour of McClean's return ...... but if you are, then it makes the rest of your posts even more baffling.

I think we need a little reason here boys coz it's a never ending problem. The majority of Irish folk despise what the IRA stand for. Most Germans opposed the Nazis but knew the dire consequences if they didn't toe the line. The majority of Muslims want to live in peace amongst Christian's. The Irish, German and Muslims are not our sworn enemies its factions, parties and radicals within certain nations that are at war with Britain and the Western World . Who knows what the answer is coz I doubt there will ever be a solution.

Nah they’re all in Kabul mate courtesy of that cognitively challenged idiot who got installed in the White House. Trump was bad but this imbecile is extremely dangerous. Could barely speak during that speech tonight and just hasn’t got the ability to see the bigger picture. No wonder he doesn’t take questions.

I think history may show that thatcher and regans hatred of the soviet union and socialism in general in the 70s/80s are the reason the taliban are sitting in down town Kabul tonight.
