Yorkshire cricket Bob Willis trophy 2020

Day Three

Play started on time at a gloomy looking Headingley, but Yorkshire soon lost another wicket and are now 38-3.

Update 1 - Lunch score Yorks 164-5. A good stand of 75 by Brook (53) and Tattersall (now 39 n.o.) helped Yorkshire to take a first innings lead. Both played some stylish shots , even though the ball was swinging around a lot.

Update 2 - Tea .Good innings from Tattersall (71) and Thompson (62), but the tail- enders offered little resistance, as Yorks lost the lost five wicket for 15 runs to finish with 252 all out. Really needed full batting points to have a chance of getting to the final of the competition, but only got 2 out of 5.

Update 3 - Second innings : Leics 78-5, but bad light stopped play.

Update 4 - No further action due to bad light . Close of play.

Day Four - weather forecast is quite good!
If Yorkshire win, we still won't have enough points to reach the final now because of the results from the other games.

Update 1 - Leics 121 -7 after about an hour's play this morning. Yorkshire bowlers are looking dangerous, but a couple of routine catches have been dropped.

Update 2 - Leics 161 all out. Thompson, who has been Yorkshire's "find" of the season, took 5-31 (his best 4-day bowling figures). He got his chance to play this season due to injuries and England call-ups , and he has made the most of it in an all-rounder role.

Update 3 - Yorks 4-0 at Lunch. Thirty more runs required

Update 4 - Yorks 37-0 , and won by 10 wickets.

End of the 4-day season for Yorkshire. Won 3 Drawn 2 Lost 0. Would have probably qualified for the Bob Willis Trophy final, barring bad luck with the weather. Great to be able to watch live streams of most of the games, although a few problems with transmission sometimes! Thompson and Tattersall have done very well. The fast bowlers generally have looked dangerous, when fully fit. May need to continue to use them in rotation though, because they have been a bit prone to injury. Still five T20 games to play yet!

It is good that you've been able to keep up with them due to the live streams isn't it.

Yorkshire have done very well - let's hope it continues for the next few years.

The BBC Radio commentators said that because of likely ongoing coronavirus problems, it could be a partly regionalised competition of some sort next season too for 4-day matches

Bob Willis Trophy 2020 - last day of the Final match today, starting on Somerset 301 and 227-7, Essex 337-8 (innings closed)

Update 1 : Somerset 272-7 dec, Essex second innings 68-3

Update 2 : Essex finished on 179-6 (Match drawn)

Essex win the Bob Willis Trophy based on first innings scores.

I was hoping that Somerset would win , as they have never won the County Championship, but they just missed out again.

We may see a similar format competition next season, if coronavirus is still a problem by then.
