No point having a ball playing CB when all you are instructed to do is hoof the ball - it's the same with Lloris, his hoofing the ball is now out of control and rarely achieves anything, except to give the opposition the ball.
That's a point, but wondering if it's linked to not having the centre backs capable plus sissoko to play out from the back?

Toby maybe although his long pings are better than his short passing game and Dier and Sanchez are awful at passing under pressure. Maybe Rodon might be OK but he doesn't play much.

Much prefer tight, well organised defensive units, they cover up a multitude of frailties don't cost a King's (Ledders) ransom and function remarkably well with average players who stay calm under pressure and possess good levels of spatial awareness.

Well well, no sooner do we debate our CB.s and their inability to score and what happens TOBY pops up with the 3rd today....would you believe it.....we better have a debate about our midfileders and their inability to score this week and see what happens!

Yup! Our singular reliance on Kane and Son to score all our goals....is one of our biggest failures. We have absolutely no significant help from anyone else.

It's simple, when we're not playing a deep laying block, you have time and space to pass, even ping a cross-field ball, it's down to the forwards and the midfield to press higher up the pitch, which stops the problem where you play a deep block as then you have no outlet ball to the midfield as they are virtually playing alongside you, so you have to hoof it upfield/over the top.

Against Leeds, we were set up to press higher up the pitch and guess what, when in defence we played a higher percentage of on the ground successful passes from the back than we did in our previous 3 games!

Passing success is all about time and space, it's the first casualty when you think and play with a defensive mentality.

Leeds is just one game where this once again showed itself to be true.
