Donnelly's Side Victorious Against Bury
Ciaran Donnelly’s youth side lifted the Lancashire FA Youth Cup for the first time since 2008 with a shoot-out victory against Bury.
Goals from Ewan Bange and Seb Des Pres forced the tie to penalties, with Blackpool twice coming from behind in the game at Gigg Lane to draw 2-2.
All four of The Seasiders’ spot-kicks found the net in the shoot-out, with Jack Sims pulling off two saves to seal the victory.
It was Bury who made a bright start to the game and opened the scoring inside four minutes, Joe Adams got in down the left hand side and slotted through the legs of Jack Sims.
The home side quickly pushed for a second, however Sims got across his goal well to push away a shot from distance by Tsun Dai.
It was a fine bit of attacking football that led to Blackpool’s equaliser, Fin Sinclair-Smith made a clever run into the box and delivered a great ball for Ewan Bange to tap in.
A mazy run from Bury’s Ciaran Best was thwarted by Jack Sims, who quickly rushed off his line to claim the ball and deny the hosts from re-taking the lead.
Space opened up for Dai to burst into the box in the 33rd minute but he flashed his effort across Sims’ goal.
Prior to half-time, Blackpool’s Jack Newton went into the book for an overzealous tackle, leaving him treading a tightrope.

Academy Manager Ciaran Donnelly opted to replace Newton after the interval with Christian NGuessan, however shortly after the team fell behind again.
Some hesitancy at the back led to a corner being conceded, and it was from the resulting play that Bury skipper Ryan Cooney headed home unmarked at the back post.
Donnelly opted to make his second change of the game with 61 minutes on the clock, introducing Ralph Chea for 15-year-old goalscorer Ewan Bange.
Blackpool looked to exploit a counter attacking opportunity on 66 minutes, though Rowan Roache was just unable to find Chea down the left.
It wasn’t long until Blackpool were back level though, as a sublime bit of skill from Sebastien Des Pres saw him turn the opposition defence inside out before finding the bottom corner.
Two fouls in quick succession saw Douglas Nyaupembe yellow carded by the referee with 12 minutes of the game remaining.
Within a minute of that decision Dylan Sumner had a glaring opportunity to give Blackpool the lead but fired over the bar from eight-yards out.
As both teams pushed for a late winner, Des Pres lost possession of the ball in midfield and saw Turner surge forward for Bury before shooting wide.
Roache came agonisingly close to a third for Blackpool with a curler from the edge of the box, however it fell just wide of the post.
Three minutes of added time failed to produce a winner, meaning spot-kicks were required to settle the outcome.
FT - Bury 2 Blackpool 2 (straight to penalties)
Rowan Roache was first to step up for Blackpool and the Republic of Ireland under-17 international sent the ‘keeper the wrong way to score.
Rob Harker was Bury’s first taker and he put his penalty in the opposite corner to Roache.
Christian N’Guessan found the net with second penalty, despite Cameron McCulloch getting a strong hand to the ball, before a super stop from Sims denied a powerful effort from Will Ferry.
Skipper Caleb Richards was next up for The Seasiders and he tucked the ball away into the bottom corner.
Jake Barrett pulled one back for Bury to make it 3-2, however Fin Sinclair-Smith quickly restored the two-goal advantage prior to Callum Hulme seeing his penalty easily saved by Sims.
It meant a 4-2 victory for Blackpool in the shoot-out and made up for the heartache of losing out to Oldham Athletic in the final of this competition last season.
