Villa v Derby

Phew - what a game. Congratulations to Villa. Have to say the skill level, particularly in the last 15 minutes, was incredible. The speed & accuracy of the passing was out of this world. Shows how far we have to go before we get to this level. One day ??

Honestly, PerthImp, did you think that was a good game?

Derby were dreadful for 80 minutes and Villa, though definitely much better, barely rose above mediocrity. It was hardly end-to-end and neither goalkeeper had much to do - albeit Derby's did nothing badly.

I don't remember FLDC creating a decent chance after they'd scored. There was one bit of good football, which came in the 94th minute.

Wasn't a bad game considering it was a PO final, and considering the other two games, but it was the last 15 minutes in particular when Derby had to go for it.

Good to see Frank Lampard has got Derby playing properly with their centre backs preferring to pass between each other in the 97th minute, rather than lumping the ball forward and trying to create a chance of scoring.

Can’t believe you thought that was a good game, exciting perhaps but technically way below what is required in the Prem.
Lampard got it wrong today, playing Huddlestone who is way past his best, and not starting with Marriott.
6 easy points for City next season either way.

Thought Derby were total rubbish in defence, both goals coming from simple crosses that should have been dealt with.(Derby full backs appalling but exposed over the 90)
The Derby keeper wouldn`t get a game for Boston
As Norfolk says Huddlestone was one too many kebabs and the Derby midfield did little to prevent their back 4 from being exposed, they had talent in there but little shape without the ball(Lawrence and Mount quality but loanee Wilson went missing.)
Most of the game Derby sat too deep and they would have benefited from pressing higher up the field
Only in the later stages of the game did Derby make inroads in wide positions and this created their chances.
Villa worked hard on closing down Derby but they are set for the big relegation next season in my opinion.
Can`t help but think that some Derby players would struggle to get in our first 11.
Remember the Derby full back Tomori scored that own goal in the facup for Brighton a season ago or more. Not wanting to crucify the guy but he is a specialist in own goals,,,,,,,don`t miss this link this is top drawer.
He did it at Lincoln and for E ngland

Tomori's been getting rave reviews for most of the season from the press actually...

Lincoln won’t be playing Villa or Derby next season. Must be on the wrong board.

Didn't think any of the PO games were outstanding.

Newport vs Tranmere was definitely the worst by far.
