Excellent advert for National league football as was the midweek game on BT.
Woking are a good unit no doubt, however without good individuals they look an average national league side [expected more from Hyde tonight]. At first sight it appears to blow out of the water the line of thinking which suggests you have to be a big side [physically] to do well in this league, but maybe if/when injuries, suspensions, cold weather kick in it may prove a different story for a small squad? It's a long hard season in the national league as we have found out.

Onto the meat on the bones: brilliant first half which i think we just shaded on both possession and chances. The goal ruled offside was an error of judgement on the assistant referees behalf but football is lived in the moment, as it should be we all make mistakes, we're human. The forward player may have been interfering with play in the assistant referees opinion, drawing away a defender? but it was what it was.

The penalty was a totally different matter, anyone who thought it wasn't a penalty needs to take a closer look. The defender, who was facing front right, put forward his right shoulder/arm but also put up his left hand, that is what the ball struck and the referee spotted it, the pundits didn't, definite penalty. 1-0 pools.

Start of the second half we bossed for 12-15 mins then it became even.

Cook's yellow on 70 mins was nothing more than cynical, Gime was away from him, definite yellow.
77 mins we started to defend deep, conceding three consecutive corners. We eventually relinquished our lead on 80 mins. Cracking strike from an ex school teacher (why cant we breed PE teachers like that? [assumption]. However the same individual could easily have been relieved of his duties on 90 mins for a high challenge, as he already had one yellow in the bag.

Going back to the 81st minute, Johnsons challenge on Donaldson was over the ball, we've already seen a sending off for a similar challenge at the Vic this term so it could easily have been red. Woking could easily have ended the game with ten men, and they may well as the season pans out, see concerns re: Hodges possible second yellow at 90 mins for his high challenge, sometimes being over enthusiastic doesn't help.

We are progressing, at a nice even pace too, still a few tweeks to make, but we've a good squad and it's a marathon not a sprint. Of the 7 teams i thought might finish above us this term 6 of them currently are not even in the top half of the table, and that's what this league is about, the previous seasons cheerleaders can easily become this seasons chip wrappers.
