1 – Are you looking forward to the season? (Expand on more than just 'yes or no' please!)

2 – What are your hopes/expectations for it?

3 – Which summer signing are you most excited about?

4 – Players we have lost we have lost for a reason but which one, if any; that has gone do you feel we will most miss?

5 – Your tip for the player of the season?

6 – Do you plan many, if any, Fratton visits this season?

7 – Which club, if any, are you most looking forward to coming to Fratton?

8 – An away day? Is there a club you are most looking forward to us going to?

I think it is important that we make a good positive start to the season, all the goodwill generated by the fans take over has had a very positive effect so far, but I wonder if some of the people coming back to FP, or coming for the 1st time will retain the enthusiasm during the cold, wet, tuesday evenings that we will probably get during Sept, Oct, & Nov. If we start well I am sure enthusiasm will be retained but I'm not quite so sure if things get off to a bad start. Heres hoping. :1: :1: :35:

With the new season almost here it would be nice to get a few last minute answers to a few questions.

First up is the landlord himself, me - pompeyrug...

1 – Are you looking forward to the season? (Expand on more than just 'yes or no' please!)
Honest answer, not sure!

I continue to be appreciative that we still have a club, but have to admit that the initial optimism following the PST taking over the club have drifted away – this is not a reflection of them, far from it, more a reflection of where I am in my life and what football holds for me these days...

Plenty has been going on in my private life, so these things have dominated my summer and left me with little time to think football. In all honesty though, even with the season just a week away, I am not 'excited' by it, dare I even say looking forward to it!

I have seriously fallen out of love with football in recent years; I might go as far as say I hate it! It is a law unto itself, and I just despise most things about it. The years of pain, suffering and hurt with Pompey have taken its toll but also my own priorities changing have put a different slant on the importance of Pompey for me.

My sincere hope is that when the season does begin I can continue to get the pleasure from it I started to again in the majority of the final months of last season – and no, in case anyone thinks it, us being crap has nothing to do with things. Granted I have not viewed us this low in the football league pyramid but I have seen us pretty crap over the years.

Well, I did say honest answer and in a largest kind of a nutshell I think I have offered up my views...

2 – What are your hopes/expectations for it?
Mainly to just enjoy football again, not just go along and do it as it is 'something I feel I have to!'

I would not say I am setting expectations too high, but would hope for a top 10 finish. I am not sure it is too much to 'hope for' but it would be nice if we can push for the play-offs though.

3 – Which summer signing are you most excited about?
I would genuinely like to think that those coming in now are coming in for the right reasons, they have signed because they want to be with a club that is a big one, definitely in terms of league two standard without a doubt. We do not dish out stupid wages anymore so they are here because the want to.

Lets hope this shows with the on-field performances, and actions off it!

Andy Barcham seems to have something about him, so I hope he could be a match winner, and we need them.

4 – Players we have lost we have lost for a reason but which one, if any; that has gone do you feel we will most miss?
As the question says, most that have gone have gone for a reason and ultimately we will not miss them.

I did like Shaun Cooper, unfortunately for him his failure to want to commit his future to Pompey, preferring to keep 'his options open' costs him. He could have added something and I grew to very much like Sam Sodje but what we have will do me so it is time to look forward, not back.

5 – Your tip for the player of the season?
If last season is anything to go by, and assuming he does indeed stay, I would have to say that Jed Wallace should excel at this level and will be instrumental to our season, enough to earn the crown.

6 – Do you plan many, if any, Fratton visits this season?
Well, I would hope so as I have renewed my season ticket – not that, as I write this, it has arrived yet nor have I had any confirmation it has gone through, well other than the money taken by PFC from me!

Boxing Day is never possible from Devon, so that one aside and probably most midweek games I will be there.

7 – Which club, if any, are you most looking forward to coming to Fratton?
Again, honest answer I cannot say there is one that sticks out!

8 – An away day? Is there a club you are most looking forward to us going to?
Keeping it completely honest I am nowhere near as excited about away travel as I used to be, certainly not like my long-term travel companions are – if I do many away I would be surprised...

The likes of Plymouth, Torquay and Exeter will be nice to go to and be there within a short space of time due to my Devon base. Probably Exeter the most enjoyable as the right train could see me from my door to the gates of St James' Park within 30-minutes!

That is me done, hopefully others will follow suit and fire the answers through to us at VP Towers via email to the address below.

1. In all honesty, not been looking forward to a season as much as i am this one for many years. My interest had waned in the last few years but is right back up there to when I first started going some 30 years ago.

2. Don't believe we will rip up the division but would hope to be top half all season and maybe sneak a play off place.

3. As I've yet to see any of the friendlies and know little or nothing of the new signings, think I'll reserve judgement on that one.

4. Can't think of any player who has gone that left me gutted tbh.

5. I'd go for Connolly.

6. Hopefully most with the exception of those I will miss through holidays.

7. Plymouth.

8. Not been to nearly as many in the last few seasons, partly due to a new job and partly a bit of apathy. Looking to go to a lot more this season, and as Accrington is the 1st and a new ground, am really looking forward to that one.

1 – Are you looking forward to the season? (Expand on more than just 'yes or no' please!)
Yes, starting to get excited after a good couple of years of apathy toward Football as a whole - I really do think that the game has lost its grass roots appeal and looking forward to Pompey starting at the bottom and hopefully working their way back up again. This is the league that I first started watching Pompey, and loved it back then and starting to get that feeling back again.........just let's do it the right way this time!
2 – What are your hopes/expectations for it?
I would like to see a steady start with no false expectations, I would be happy with mid table and upwards - and it would be great to push for the play offs ! With the new season almost here it would be nice to get a few last minute answers to a few questions.

Next up is Et tu Pompeii...

1 – Are you looking forward to the season? (Expand on more than just 'yes or no' please!)
I'm always excited about a new season; even in the dark days, a new season was an opportunity to change everything that has been bad and build on everything that has been good. This season should be brilliant in that we have a club with players being paid the correct, 'going rate' for their services. This makes a huge difference to us fans watching – we all surely hate overpaid players. We have a management and staff who love the club and want what's best for it – yes, I know about 'self interest' but that's what you get with Capitalism.

2 – What are your hopes/expectations for it?
I don't want to 'walk' this league; that would create all kinds of demanding expectations which would be hard to control and difficult to meet. I want it to be tough but I would be lying if I said I hoped for anything less than promotion. I will, however, absolutely cope with being in League Two next year as long as we have shown character.

3 – Which summer signing are you most excited about?
Connolly should be really up for it and if Angryman carries on where he left off he could write himself into Pompey history. Our young defence could be a revelation. Our wingers could be really exciting and I would love to see Bird score for fun.

4 – Players we have lost we have lost for a reason but which one, if any; that has gone do you feel we will most miss?
I liked Therry Racon and thought he could have improved by staying with us, but, it seems he rates himself too highly so not bothered about him or any others, really.

5 – Your tip for the player of the season?
I would put money on it being Simon Ferry – just got a feeling.

6 – Do you plan many, if any, Fratton visits this season?
Season ticket holder so yes, all of them. And Midlands/Northern away games, too, as my sons are now in Derby.

7 – Which club, if any, are you most looking forward to coming to Fratton?
All of them although I'd like us to give Fleetwood a stuffing.

8 – An away day? Is there a club you are most looking forward to us going to?
Burton Albion is an away game I'm looking forward to, for some reason.

Thanks to Et tu Pompeii, hopefully others will follow suit and fire the answers through to us at VP Towers via email to the address below.

1 – Are you looking forward to the season? (Expand on more than just 'yes or no' please!)

Absolutely. This close season has seemed longer than ever with the fan's take-over late last season and no summer football tournament as a distraction of note (no disrespect intended to the ladies game).

2 – What are your hopes/expectations for it?

I am hoping to see some attacking, entertaining football and I really hope we are in the play off mix at the end of the season.

3 – Which summer signing are you most excited about?

All of them, they all have a job to do if we are to have a successful season.

4 – Players we have lost we have lost for a reason but which one, if any; that has gone do you feel we will most miss?

Probably Racon, but if he doesn't want to be here.......

5 – Your tip for the player of the season?

I hope it's impossible to select just one!

6 – Do you plan many, if any, Fratton visits this season?

All of them with my season ticket!

7 – Which club, if any, are you most looking forward to coming to Fratton?

Plymouth

8 – An away day? Is there a club you are most looking forward to us going to?

Plymouth again. I like Home park and proper pasties!

9 – If you would like to add anything else please do below...

I sincerely hope that if the start is a little slower, or a little more tentative than we would like that the 'how sh1t must you be etc' chants do not resurface. They were funny ONCE and it has been admitted by the players that it did have a negative effect! If you want instant success then please feel free to go somewhere else. All in all though, it would be nice to leave the Fratton End wearing a smile and not wanting to boot the away team bus on the way past!!

With the new season almost here it would be nice to get a few last minute answers to a few questions.

Next up is PompeyJake...

1 – Are you looking forward to the season? (Expand on more than just 'yes or no' please!)
I've never not looked forward to the start of a season and this year is no different. After the Euro's and the Olympics last year, this summer has been particularly boring in terms of sport so I have been counting down the days to the start of the new Football League season since about June!

2 – What are your hopes/expectations for it?
I've been a little concerned by how most people think we're going to just walk this division. I remember a year ago, we beat Bolton in a preseason friendly 3-0 and the chants all game were all promotion related. Fast forward 9 months and we're in league 2. Also, being based down in Exeter now, I've got the chance to watch a lot of League 2 football this last year and there are some decent teams in this division.

I think given the fact our budget is about average for league 2, I think we can expect to finish in the top half of the table. I would almost bet my share on that. Playoffs would be a bonus and if we go in with good form, who knows.

3 – Which summer signing are you most excited about?
The arrival of Simon Ferry has excited me. He came on briefly against Rayo and looked fairly sharp considering he was playing with the team for the first time. He could be the playmaker in the middle we need to feed off the front men.

4 – Players we have lost we have lost for a reason but which one, if any; that has gone do you feel we will most miss?
As I'm writing this, Rocha hasn't re-signed yet. I think he would be a big loss at the back as his experience and the passion he plays with is a great asset for the back line. Having said that, I don't know how suited for league 2 football he is.

5 – Your tip for the player of the season?
I think Jed Wallace, given how well he played towards the end of last season, could well scoop this. The club have managed to keep hold of him for now which I believe is a great move for both sides. Jed needs first team football consistently and he can be guaranteed that at Portsmouth if he keeps playing like he has. If he can match his form from last season in this, he could be one of the best players in this division.

6 – Do you plan many, if any, Fratton visits this season?
Now I'm based at Exeter Uni, I've given up my Season ticket. However, I still made 6 games last season and I plan to do about the same this time around too. I already have my Oxford ticket and will probably make one more game before term begins again. One thing that does unfortunately hold me back is cost. £15 for a young persons ticket is expensive compared to other League 2 teams. Exeter is a fiver for a game!

7 – Which club, if any, are you most looking forward to coming to Fratton?
Well it has to be Exeter I'm afraid. I've made friends with quite a few Exeter fans who are relishing the trip up to us and I know I'll never hear the end of it if they get a result! Having said that though, Rochdale and Cheltenham play good football so those games should be good too.

8 – An away day? Is there a club you are most looking forward to us going to?
Again, its Exeter. The stadium is about 50 yards from my house. I'm just praying I'm able to get tickets to this. I'll be absolutely gutted if I can't! I'm also looking forward to Plymouth and Torquay though too. One of the benefits of being in this division is that there are a lot of league 2 teams near me!

STILL time to give some answers guys and i will get them added front page...

1 – Are you looking forward to the season?

Yes, but not to a stupid extent. I have my feet on the ground about Pompey, having been burnt in recent seasons. I'm just pleased that things are pointing to a "normal" season for a change - if life in League Two can ever be described as normal for us.

2 – What are your hopes/expectations for it?

I think that "hope" is the operative word. I don't "expect" very much to be honest. When you have a brand new squad, all of which have been picked up for free, you can't get too far ahead of yourself. It always takes time to come together, and I doubt that every player is oozing with quality, but time will tell. I hope for play-offs, but expect solid mid-table. If we are battling the drop then questions will need to be asked.

3 – Which summer signing are you most excited about?

I like the sound of Padovani. Sounds like he could be an interesting player to have in the squad. However, he'll do well to outshine the man Wallace, assuming he is still here when the transfer window shuts.

4 – Players we have lost we have lost for a reason but which one, if any; that has gone do you feel we will most miss?

Nobody really. Rocha is seen as a "miss", but I think its time for him to move on. We need people who really want to be here. If Rocha had wanted to be here, he would be & he isn't. The only surprise was Eastwood. A short-sighted move by him, but he is far from irreplaceable.

5 – Your tip for the player of the season?

It'll be a tough league, but people can still play. Assuming he stays & stays fit, it'll be Wallace.

6 – Do you plan many, if any, Fratton visits this season?

I hope to do them all, but midweek may be tricky given that I work in London.

7 – Which club, if any, are you most looking forward to coming to Fratton?

Plymouth. One of the few decent sized clubs in L2 & a city that I have many family connections with. I will certainly look forward to that one.

8 – An away day? Is there a club you are most looking forward to us going to?

I doubt I'll be trekking up & down like I used to. I have too many other things I like to do & spending all Saturday on the road isn't really for me any more. However, I will look to make a few trips. For the reasons given to 7 above, I will be looking to make a trip to Plymouth. I'll also make a trip to Torquay I expect (if I can get a ticket). I have friends in a place called Islington who I haven't seen in ages, which isn't too far away, so will try & tie it all in if I can. Other than that, it'll just be matches where it makes an interesting weekend. Day trips for 90 mins of L2 footie aren't too exciting!!

With the new season almost here it would be nice to get a few last minute answers to a few questions.

Next up is Terraceman...

1 – Are you looking forward to the season? (Expand on more than just 'yes or no' please!)
Looking forward to the season, and anticipating us doing well. It feels like going back in time and it is an awfully long way up to the bottom half of the championship, which is I feel, our rightful position – that is, without a Sugar Daddy to fund us.

2 – What are your hopes/expectations for it?
I expect nothing less than promotion. This is, I understand, totally irrational. However, in my defence, I point to all those punters and bookies whose odds on us are inexplicably, ridiculously optimistic. What do they base their predictions on? I hope that we play exciting football worthy of our superb fan base, and I hope that we are able to show all of our opponents, that is both the Clubs and their supporters, absolute and total respect.

3 – Which summer signing are you most excited about?
Ryan Bird – I hope he has a great season and bags 18 goals. Off his knee, mishits, penalties, offsides - yes I expect the refereeing standard to be rubbish - Everything gratefully accepted.

4 – Players we have lost we have lost for a reason but which one, if any; that has gone do you feel we will most miss?
I was going to say Gyepes for his goals from set pieces, but I feel Eastwood will be missed. We must be solid at the back, and the two custodians do not fill me with any confidence - at this time.

5 – Your tip for the player of the season?
Like many of the Blue persuasion, I have a soft spot for people who put in a shift – any takers?

6 – Do you plan many, if any, Fratton visits this season?
Maybe two or three games around public holidays; my enjoyment is to go to away games with my three brothers and a mate who has been a fan as long as I have.

7 – Which club, if any, are you most looking forward to coming to Fratton?
Nah, not expecting any problems with any other team. Surely we have nothing to prove at Fratton? Send them all packing!

8 – An away day? Is there a club you are most looking forward to us going to?
Of the three clubs who went down with us, Bury mirror us in having had a stay of execution, and are looking forward to the new season. Apparently they have signed a new team, just like us?

Play Up Pompey!
