Think that was his best all round performance for us. I do still maintain that the set up isn't right for him, as he gets back and does what i think the defenders and/or holding midfielder should be doing. We want him marauding forward, not stuck having to cover in defence.

That's not a criticism of him.

But yes, his best for us and in front of Southgate. All of a sudden, bearing in mind some of the fairly average showings some of the midfielders for England have shown of late, he could well be seeing his first call up.

People go on about the work rate of SJM but Jack is up there with him, he raced back to defend a few breakaway situations against Brighton, overtaking some of our defenders on the way. He really really wants us to win, his determination is second to none in that side.
This is despite being told to stay up the pitch by the manager, he just can't do it he has to help the whole team.
He is nailed on for the next England squad for sure. I can't think of a single midfielder better than Jack in current England set up

Aston Villa summer signing Matt Targett has had a mixed start to life at the club following his £15million switch from Southampton, but with his injury issues seeming to be behind him now, he’s definitely begun impressing fans with his attacking play – and he, of course, played a key role in our victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend, as he hit the winner.

You would think that these people who work in the media would actually do something radical before they shoot their mouths off , and do some research.

Sorry MF. Stopped reading at Tony Cascarino. He works for Talkshite ergo his opinion is worthless.
Tony was maybe SGTs biggest disappointment. We coudda, shoudda signed Tony's strike partner, Teddy Sherringham. Didn't work out for Tony at Villa, summed up when he missed a sitter at the San Siro which would have given us a huge boost at the time.

One thing Tony did say that was right. We have a very young side. But just look at the potential. A few star players have a natural gift which gets them to the top. The rest don't but get there by sheer determination, dedicated hard work, and the luck of having top level coaching. Our coaching time looked for the first two in signing new players, and can provide the last. This side can go a long, long way. With a few additions, naturally. And Jack is the ideal leader.

The future is bright. The future is Villa :utv:
