The mystery that was Dominc Hyam!

A little bit of a strange one seen as we're short on defenders at the moment and he has filled in that role admirably since the start of the season.

Cookie hopefully has an ace up his sleeve and sold Barton to make room for a natural centre-back.

Et Voila! A Centre-Back appears!

Dominic Hyam, 20 year old on loan from Reading. Played at Dagenham last season.

Anyone hoping to get a glimpse of him this weekend however will be disappointed as he is away with the Scotland U21 team.

Anyone know anything more about this kid?

Shame to see Barton move on, a classy player who I liked and thought that in the main, he performed well in an unnatural centre half position.

At least we've managed to pick up a fee for him and Hyam seems to be a decent prospect, plus he is actually a defender by trade. Should be decent cover.

Strange decision for Barton to move on but with a three-year contract on offer and topflight football (albeit, with respect Scottish Premiership) guess you cannot blame him for going.

He'll (you would think) have assured 1st team football and I would have to think the deal worked well for all concerned.

Decent player, who I did like, but wasn't someone I wanted to play central defence regularly. Think Davies coming in might have done it for him as he looked very good at Exeter and would have been ahead of Barton, as would Burgess, Clarke and (when fit) Whatmough so he was fifth choice you think at best in defence and down the order in midfield.

I think this makes sense really. He is a midfield player and we have plenty now plus being a footballer he does not fit at the back in this league. Ball needs to be in Row Z.

Young Hyam may get a chance as with Jack out for a while we are short on numbers at the back.

As we have so many players now, I don't suppose 1 in or out in any position makes a lot of difference, I just think that Paul Cook loves to be involved in transfers and likes spending our hard earned dosh :38: :111: :15: :69:

In fairness lorna hasn't he gained the club money by offloading Barton who (good as he may well be) wouldn't have played much this season you feel?

Hyam wouldn't have set us back much and if cover 'just in case' type thing.

Was surprised to see Barton go in many ways but think Dave's right really.

It's all happened late on deadline day for Pompey hasn't it! Barton's exit for Partick Thistle has seen Cook turn to Reading defender Hyam who has joined the Blues on loan.

Adam Barton's deadline day departure for Partick Thistle, which resulted in Dominic Hyam coming in from Reading, wasn't a deal anyone would have seen happening I suspect?

No ideal, someone said to me 'nominal' on Saturday so probably not much?

BUT its a fee, and a good move for all concerned I guess.

In all honesty Hyam is a player I had forgotten about until Cook reminded me of the Reading loanee, who came to Pompey on deadline day but is yet to make a 1st team appearance.

Dominic Hyam, signed on loan when Adam Barton left for Partick Thistle on deadline day, has returned to Reading having failed to make a 1st team appearance - he made only one squad.

What a strange transfer this one was? We would have been better off using one of our kids as back up wouldn't we!

Hey ho, the odd deal like this happens at all clubs to be fair.
