Really looking forward to this , will watch what I have to on Sky then switch to BBC at the weekend when their coverage kicks in .
Great that Woods is there, plus an in form Mickelson , then with Poulter grabbing that last spot and in form Mcilroy, Casey, Fleetwood this should be an awesome competition. Also don't rule out Garcia again .
Who's your money on ??

I've put a few quid on Justin Thomas at 10/1 (not much, I am not much of a gambler).

Poults looked good in securing his place and I would love him to do well, and it would be great if Tiger rolled back the years and put up a fight. Interesting that he is in a group with Tommy Fleetwood.

Can't wait!

I really really dont like golf . So this will be my only venture into this thread.

So gents, enjoy your weekend watching and listening to retard yanks cock slapping each other and shouting and hollering 'get in the hole' at a player who has just teed off 400 yards away from the aforementioned hole.

:cup:

I have to say, I look forward to this every year, and then withing the first few hours remember I hate it. The course is a joke, rewarding luck more than skill often enough.

Add to that, you can bet every 5 seconds it will be a Tiger Woods monopoly, and I can see I will be fed up with it very early on. My main hope is that Woods doesn't make the cut, because I have guests coming round to watch the final round on Sunday.

I just can't wait. I'm sooooo excited, I'm like a kid in a candy shop.

Not been this excited about a Golf Major.... ever I don't think.

There are so many players BANG in form.

2 time Champion Bubba Watson has won twice already in 2018.

Augusta legend Phil Mickelson was back in the winners circle a few weeks ago.

Course Specialist and previous winner Jordan Spieth was back to his ominous looking best last weekend.

Justin Thomas is playing the best of anyone in the word right now.

Rory McIlory had a win a few weeks ago too, as he looks to complete a career grand slam.

Justin Rose, is bang in form as he looks to go one better having lost on a playoff to Sergio last year.

Poulter last week! WOW!!! What an effort just to be here.

And then there's the little matter of a certain Tiger Woods, who is not only back, but back and playing somewhere resembling his best golf. His short game over the past 3 months has been nothing short of stunning, and he knows Augusta like the back of his hand so he has to have a chance.

I really just can't wait for the off and have already warned Natalie that the TV for the next 4 days will be golf, golf and more golf.

:wahey::wahey::wahey::wahey::wahey:

Sorry mate, we don't disagree on much very often but that is absolute garbage on both counts.

How can you say that the course rewards luck more than skill when there are so many Augusta specialists, and when the top of the leaderboard most years is usually a who's who of the best players on tour?

If anything I'd say the exact opposite, it rewards skill and talent and thats why the best players tend to do well here and the average players fall by the wayside.

Say what you want but putting is a skill, and one of the most important elements in golf. Reading these greens and making the putts isn't about luck.

As for Tiger, i have a love hate relationship with him. I don't lke him as a man. The spitting, the disrespect he sometimes shows to fans and other competitiors.... I've slated him a lot in the past.

I also don't like all the coverage he gets when he isn't playing well. They should focus on the guys that are.

BUT..... his comeback is GREAT for golf. There's no denying it. Hoping he doesn't make the cut is ridiculous, as the sport, and the event is better with him in it, no doubt about it.

Also, if he's playing well then i really don't mind all the coverage he gets because he is the GOAT and he has earnt it. And believe me, I've watched hi in his last 4 tournaments and he is playing VERY VERY well. To be playing this well after all the surgery and time off he's had is nothing short of miraculous so you've got to hold your hands up and say well done Tiger.

I hope to see him up there competing on Sunday, i can't think of anything more exciting.

Hehehehe. I knew that would get somebodies attention.

I just know it happens every year. The greens are prepared too quick for the slopes, and it does just come down to who putts the best (or luckiest) on the day. Golf is about so much more than that. You see great shots into the greens, only for the ball to roll off down the slope 30 yards away.

Then there are the trees. There is practically no penalty for missing the fairway by miles for some.

As for the specialist, I also see lots of one time winners, like Willett and Garcia. Speith is jut a superhuman putter, which goes back to my previous point about that.

As for Woods, it's not necessarily him, but more the way the TV (particularly the US coverage) follow him everywhere, at the expense of all the other great players there. He''ll be 50th on Friday, and the coverage will still be two thirds about him. We'll be watching him walking down the fairway instead of someone actually playing a great shot. It gets on my nerves every year he's there.

haha.

To be fair if you land the ball on a green and it rolls off 30 yards then it's not a great shot. You have to take the slopes into account. if there's a big 30 yard run off at the back of the green you aim for the front, or even the fringe.

To be fair Garcia may be a 1 time winner, but he is also still an Augusta specialist, he's had plenty op top 20 finishes over the years.

Willett was an odd one. Can't stand him, and he's not that good, but he was just in the form of his life for 2 or 3 months around then and managed to transfer that form to the Masters.

I totally get the Tiger thing. I was watching the feature group coverage o Sky Sports Golf a few weeks ago. They were following Mcilroys group.... and then broke away from that for 30 minutes, yes 30 MINUTES!!! to watch Tiger hitting balls on the driving range.

It is daft. And it does annoy me more so if he's not even playing well, but you have to realise what the man is to golf. The crowds following his practice round on Monday at Augusta were 10 deep. People want to see him. Kids would rather see him pick his nose than see Ricky Fowler make an eagle putt. He's a legend.

If he's playing well then I don't see any harm in the coverage he gets, because he's exciting to watch at his best.

Anyway... on to the important matter of money.

I was lucky (or wise) enough to jump on Bubba Watson, 100% balls deep before his WGC win, so I've got £20 on the nose for him to win @ 25/1

He's now 14/1, so feel like I've won already. lol

Kind of wish I'd gone e/w given the form some of the other players are in but got a really good feeling about Bubba, he's playing better now than he was when he won either of his other 2 Green Jackets.

Full list of my bets below -

£20 WIN on Bubba Watson @ 25/1
£5 win (£5 free bet) on Tiger @ 11/1
50p e/w on Ryan Moore @ 80/1
45p e/w on Kevin Chappell @ 90/1
40p e/w on Zach Jonhson @ 100/1
40p e/w on Kevin Kisner @ 100/1
40p e/w on Gary Woodland @ 100/1
30p e/w on Jason Dufner @ 125/1
25p e/w on Ross Fisher @ 150/1

Not really expecting any of those big priced ones to go on and win but they all have decent Masters records, and they are all in relatively good form in 2018, so figured one or two of them might creep inside the Top 10.

I'm a little bit gutted I missed out on Jordan Spieth when he was 16/1. One win and two 2nd places here, and on his day I've always said if every single golfer in the world is playing to their absolute best, then Jordan Spieth wins... his best is better than anyone elses best.

Reason i didn't jump on was his form hasn't been great this year, but he was brilliant last week. He's now 10/1 fav though, so a little to short for me.

If he plays well, then he deserves the coverage, I agree. Your example is exactly what I am talking about. I end up turning it off, which spoils my possible enjoyment. I seriously think the game is better off without him, as it gives the other great golfers fairer coverage.

You play, so you know it can be a cruel game. You've had it, where you hit that great shot, that hits the green, rolls up close to the pin, and then veers off and ends up in a bunker? You feel robbed. The course is too short for the modern game, so their only defense is to use the undergreen air system to make them so quick it's verged on the ridiculous on occasion.

It's not just me either. You've got O'Meara, Olazabal, Cabrera and even going back to Billy Casper in 1970, who all admit they only won because of a lucky break.

There is a huge amount of skill on display, but I just get frustrated when it turns into a bit of a farce.

One of my favourite sporting occasions of the year.

Justin Rose always features at some point and I expect him to do so again. So many of the top players in top form , I would love to see Woods win , but it can't happen can it ?

Watched Rory's win the other week and he was unbelievable on the greens and if he putts like that again , he will win I think.

Rory is just too up and down for me. He can be brilliant. He can be truley awful.

His iron shots are no where near good enough, he doesn't trouble the pins often enough with his aproaches.

Spieth was No.1 tee to Green last week.

His putting has always been his strength but he's struggled with it so far this season. However, if he can get that back and be as good tee to green as well, he could prove unstoppable.

Just had a fiver on Harry Ellis to be top amateur @ 8/1

Read this on the BBC Sport website -

Harry Ellis, 22, won last year's Amateur Championship final at Sandwich, earning a place at The Open at Royal Birkdale the following month and a berth in this year's Masters and US Open.

"I've seen that very few amateurs have done well here over the years, it usually takes that period of time to get to know the course, but I believe in my ability and I think I can definitely play well here," said Ellis, who played Augusta several times during his final year of a sport management degree at Florida State University.

The fact he's played the course several times before should be a big advantage. No idea if any of the other amateurs have to, but hey ho, 8/1 seemed a decent gamble.

I've gone for Stenson, Oosthuizen and Fowler each to finish in the top 10.

Rose on an ew bet.

No idea really. It's all a bit of a lottery!!!

Yes a poor early round and it's usually a mountain to climb. More often than not, it's one or two of the early pace-setters who are still there on Sunday night.

I've saved part of my budget for Saturday morning. The odds will be worse, but it gives me a second chance at it!!!

I've had a terrible track record since I won big on Schwartzel!!! It has to get better soon.
