Ten favourite movies (n/g)

Going to do five so and base it on the ones I watch time and time again. I can then add 5 more based on the reminders I see in your posts

Snatch
Layer Cake
Pulp fiction
Schindlers list (its such an important subject)

..and one I only watched last night - A quiet place

Lots of great films already mentioned but here’s mine off the top of my head....

Atonement
Casino
Groundhog day
Great Expectations
The Aftermath
Carry on Abroad
Terminator
A single Man
Blade Runner 2
Scrooge

to be honest I could do a top 50 ..... Star Wars ..... Arnie films .... rocky.... lock stock..... carry on films etc.....

Ones I can think of at the moment, and have watched multiple times

The Italian Job (original one)
3x original Star Wars (latest one weren’t bad either)
Close Encounters
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Great Escape (original)
First 3 Harry Potter Movies

That’s 10 if the Star Wars and Potter movies are 3 each.

If not then add in -

The Assassination Bureau (Oliver Reed was brilliant).
Forest Gump
Daniel Craig Bond movies (agree with Phil)
Daniel Craig movies are Elena's choices not mine although I like him as an actor. Connery remains the best ever Bond and From Russia with Love the best film in the franchise. She also likes Henry Cavill and thinks he should be the next Bond.

Not all original, but I'm not a film buff,

The Sting
One flew over the cuckoo's nest
Close Encounters
Life of Brian
Shawshank Redemption
As good as it gets
Arthur(original)
Your cheatin' Heart (The Hank Williams Story)

Personally I have different lists

Fun
Thriller
Drama
etc

but if I were to mention a few I would nominate the following:

Schindler's List (a film everybody should be made to watch)
Godfather pt 2 (simply the best film acting ever)
Star Wars (the biggest game changer in film history since the Jazz singer)
Shawshank Redemption (up there with the Godfather but not quite pt2)
Life of Brian (simply the funniest film ever made)
Any David Lean epic (simply the best film maker that ever lived)
The Waterboy (simply so bad its funny)
Amistad (a true story of hope in darkness)
Mississippi Burning
Jungle Book (the summit of Disney animation)

Lots of good films there.

I'd chuck in
A Fish Called Wanda
The Maltese Falcon
Carry On Up The Khyber
Billy Liar
The Wrath of Khan
The Big Lebowski

Thing is, I can't remember films, good or bad, I've seen recently. They just don't stick in the same way.

Airplane
Towering inferno
A Town like Alice
Armegeddon
Jaws
My Cousin Vinny
Sleepless in Seatle
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Three Bilboards
War Games

I'm shocked that none of us have chosen "Home of the Shouting Men".

Best film ever in Mark Kermode's list I've heard, from some down the pub a couple of weeks ago, apparently.

Flash Gordon
Metropolis (Fritz Lang)
Some Like It Hot
Carmen Jones
Coco
It's A Wonderful Life
Howls Moving Castle
West Side Story
Moulin Rouge
Devil In Miss Jones

It`s The Shouting Men. I`ve got that one, every Gills` fan should watch it, though it certainly won`t be attracting Oscar nominations !

Not ashamed to admit it, but I always get a tear in my eye when the girl dies immediately after they marry.

Sexy Beast is excellent, especially Ben Kingsley who was genuinely frightening. However, you need to see the ultimate British gangster movie, "Get Carter" which is even better imo (should have put it in my top 10). Iconic musical score too.

Arthurly, good call on Far From the Madding Crowd. Yes re the Christie version. Newer one was good too. My missus proper fancied the Gabriel Oak charater. Unbelievably thinks Matthias Schoenarts (sp?) is even fitter than me.
