Skubala and Makama

I’ve been impressed by the way Skubala has managed Jovan Makama. Makama was having a tough time before Christmas, when he was exposed to regular League One football way before he was ready. His potential was obscured by his confidence draining away and when we had more striking options available most people expected Jovon to be shunted off on loan well down the pyramid.

Skubala though has kept him in the squad while keeping him out of the firing line. He’s managed to quietly rebuild his confidence by giving him a few minutes from the bench in several recent games and I reckon we were all delighted for Jovon when he recorded his first League goal yesterday. The lad did look a bit sheepish though in the goal celebration, maybe thinking Jack Moylan deserved the credit. Jovon should stand tall and be proud though, that sort of tap in is what we need our strikers to be doing, not every goal can be a classic, and in fact Jovon’s follow up put the icing on the cake to what was arguably Moylan’s best run of the game.

MS has said Jovon could be a premier league striker with his ability. If he doesn’t take his chance will be in National league.

Having heard some of the grief that was aimed Jovon's way at Derby I was absolutely delighted that he got his name on the score sheet yesterday. Whatever happens in his career he can hold his head up high and say I scored for Lincoln City in a League 1 game in front of nearly 2,000 away fans in a game that attracted more than 14,000 spectators. Not many can say that. That will probably do his confidence a darn sight more good than a scrambled goal for whatever club in a league 3 or 4 divisions below ours. He deserves a lot of credit for how he has conducted himself during the Team's hour of need. Well done Jovon.

Really pleased for him that he got his goal yesterday but without the injuries that we've had to our front players he wouldn't of been anywhere near the team, and that's not being derogatory to his ability but that is the truth, he was nowhere near ready to be in the team.

He is still developing and is still young and undoubtedly what would be best for him is a season long loan period out to a team where he is playing week in, week out and then with that experience and further maturity let's see where he is from there.

Very pleased he scored regardless of how it went in. To be honest, I don't think Skubala has had any option but to include him due to the injury problems. How many times have we been unable to fill the bench even with Makama on it?
Pleased he scored but thought the ball hit him rather than him making any great effort to get his foot to it. Still good his name goes on the scoresheet.

I’m chuffed too. But if he wasn’t there, we don’t score. He’s done exactly what a striker should do and been rewarded. Plenty of top goal scorers have their fair share of fumbled shots and tap ins through being in the right place at the right time. Let’s hope this helps him kick on

Very pleased he got a goal as that will do his confidence a great deal of good.

It was interesting just before he came on that Skoobs was clearly telling him the importance of pressing hard. That is still the weakest part of his game - and an area he just has to improve on if he is going to make a career at this level.

I don't think it is just the Skubala effect on Makama but on all the players. They all look like they have bought into what he is trying to do. All playing with a smile on their face and seem together as a team including the subs.
I admit it helps to be winning and not losing but even under MK there didn't seem this togetherness when we won a game. Just restrained relief.
