Sam Morsy

Kevin sheldon

Vital Youth Team
To say I am gutted to lose him for the cup tie is an understatement. He was integral to our chances of putting on a good show. Anybody who watched him against Bournemouth at home will appreciate his influence on the team.

Cook Is doing a great job however what possessed him not to drag him off after 70 v Blackpool I will never know. He is always man enough to admit his mistakes and I think he realised his loss with his uncharacteristic berating of the Blackpool player after the game. My frustration is compounded by fans at the match beginning to see Morsy lose his head near the end.
I remain perplexed by some fans who don't even rate Morsy. In my view showing a complete lack of knowledge of his importance in a system that has reaped its rewards so far this season. It is his job to win the ball and keep it with simple passes. With our fullback pushed on and relative luxury players like Powell and Jacobs he often does an outstanding job in protecting the centre halfs.
His role in the team is aka a poor man's Makele and anyone who knows his onions will appreciate his role in the Chelsea title winning side.
What impresses me about Morsy is his adaptability as a player. When recalled from Barnsley he was asked to play an attacking role and helped turn our fortunes around in the short trrm with man of the match displays. The fact he played like that after the masterful Caldwell dispatched him to Barnsley says it all. Another wonderful Caldwell masterstroke letting a player go from a championship relegation side to mid table Championship team where he st of out.
A fit Morsy will be a necessity to win the league this season. A great shame he misses Monday and I now shudder at the thought of a suitable replacement against that Man city midfield.

He misses the Citeh game because he acted like a brainless idiot, he knew the consequences of a booking yet still acted like a petulant six year old.
Great player and will be missed but what a knob.

Great post Kev and factually spot on...dont worry about the few that don't rate him pal as these are probably the same ones who think Massey is doing a good job so they aren't even worthy of a mention in the grand scheme of things.

I shouldn't mither about the City result either...with Sam we'd have lost about 3 or 4-0 but without him about 5 or 6-0 ...i just want the thing out the way now without too much loss of confidence especially that little butterfly occupying the right wing slot.

Kevin, good post. As I said yesterday I'm glad he got booked because he only misses one league against the bottom club at home and the league is our priority. I no longer give a toss about the fa cup fixture following two diabolical displays. As you say he is very integral to the team and I've yet to hear a satisfactory explanation why he was sent on loan with a derogatory purchase clause and I guess it will remain one of the modern mysteries of our time along with what happened to Lord Lucan.

Spot on Made in Wigan over Morsy and being sent on loan with a derogatory sell on clause. I am not letting Caldwell off the hook over this one. It is ridiculous that we could have lost him like that. It is not as if we were blessed with great players at the time and you have to let players go. It is ok being an inexperienced manager but if you can't spot his potential then it's not the right choice. Even Joyce worked Morsy out. Some people moaned when Caldwell was sacked. He deserved to go for the way he handled Morsy alone without the other stuff. There is a rumour that Morsy came back overweight pre season that you. If so then man up and manage the situation.

Any minuscule chance we had at causing a shock went with that yellow card. His role would have been so pivotal to our hopes, going up against KDB and David Silva. Can’t stop them without him I’m afraid. Power the ball watcher is going to be eaten for breakfast in there.

Morsy was 100% to blame for him picking up his 10th yellow card of the season and therefore missing the Man City & Rochale games unless it was a deliberate ploy by the Management to ensure his availability for Bristol Rovers away.

So when Paul cook used the husky voice (or did he use the squeaky voice ? or did he use both ?) to tell Sam Morsy to get deliberately booked, Sam Morsy said "No problem gaffer, I don't mind missing the opportunity to play against the best players in the country on Monday night".

I know the manager has form for deliberately throwing games, but please .....

It was nothing to do with ability, it was personal between Caldwell and Morsy.

Morsy has been a huge factor in our league form to date. He will be missed on Monday but we need his leadership and qualities asap for the run in.

Ahh circumstantial evidence :tut: :tut:

Given the last two performances, which have clearly been influenced by this forthcoming fixture, it is a pity the aforementioned checkatrade team wasn't fielded in an earlier round of the fa cup.

If the players have eased off the last two games as you state to save themselves for the cup game I’d bin them ,their professionals for gods sake , paid well to do their jobs and to try to entertain the fans that pay to see them as for Morsy well stupid is what stupid does .

I agree JJ that some of the players need a kick up the arse after the last 2 performances and benching them for the City game might be what they need.

Cant agree with the comment about Samy though. I don't think stupidity has anything to do with it. Its the way he plays and if you take that out of his game then you will end up with a very ordinary player. Besides which the Blackpool player made a meal of the incident and conned the ref. Samy is a heart on the sleeve type of player and just lost his cool for the moment resulting in the booking. Stupid !! No. Naïve !! Possibly.

That's the difference True. It would have been naive had we not needed him for the City game. Knowing that allowing himself to be conned would mean he would miss a big important game is just daft.

Surely you're not suggesting that he should have played the Blackpool game with an eye on the City tie Oscar? TB's right .......he was naive. It was late on, he was probably pi$$ed off at us losing (or at least, I hope he was!), he made a robust challenge - no worse than some others which had gone unpunished in the game - but then reacted (naturally) to the farting about of the 'Pool player.
