Two specialists have a different opinion on whether he should play again so he is now going to a third.

His manager said:

"It is a difficult situation on Mason, we have a difference of opinion and we are seeing a third doctor on Monday.

"It is not just about football but about his life. He wants to play but it is not an easy situation. It is more than football."

Feel really sorry for the lad. It was a horrific injury but I really hope he can make it back.

I feel for him, it's a horrible position to be put in; deciding to risk your health or life to keep playing will be the toughest decision in his life.

Although, I suspect it will be the club who will make the immediate decision.

That said, he'll have enough smart people around him to help him understand that as one door closes, others open.

Poor lad. I'm sure he will get a coaching role somewhere. I always quite liked him as a player.

His career, prior to and even after breaking into the first team PL squads has been an injury hit nightmare.

It limited his development and his progress, sometimes life is just shit.

Always liked Mason and saw a player in him from early days - great attitude.

'Life is shit' is very true, but his isn't that bad on the face of it and I reckon a lot of us would have traded our life up to his age and had the chance to play the game at the top level.

He could have been a top tempo setter for us in the right set up that's for sure. Remember a few years back he was finally fit and on form, had Dier as his partner and he looked top class. Then he got injured and he didn't get a sniff after that.

he never looked the same player after his last injury with us, which is why I though Hull would be a good move for him, as he probably needed a full season playing just to get back to where he was - and then bang.

Believe me, he'll be pretty down now, just hope that he's got really good people around him.

he posted a picture of his pregnant partner on the beach with the caption "my world" earlier. Hopefully he can see he has plenty to live for aside from football.

I hope he sees it that way Freund.

Real shame for him though.

I suppose he will get compensation?

He will be a millionaire in his mid 20's. Not all bad for him.

I think I know what he'd prefer; when a career is stopped/ended by injury/not good enough, the regrets really don't get resolved because of bucket loads of cash..

Of course, it helps a bit :17: :142:

That is a fuck site more deserving of sympathy than a rich professional footballers career ending early.

I get it. I was on the cusp of running for my country 10 years ago then some random blokes fractured my leg in two places. I never recovered.

That's absolutely tragic and you and your friend have my heartfelt sympathies.

Very sad . There is still much work to be done to prevent such tragic losses of life. A scheme in Wales is trialing emotional awareness sessions in schools. To help youngsters recognise issues and know where to go for help. Early indications are encouraging with good responses from the teenagers and teachers.

Safe spaces seem to be becoming the norm for kids.

Maybe teaching them that life isn't always ******* fair and just get on with it might be a good step forward for the snowflakes, life has never actually been easier for anyone in this country, I'm not in the slightest bit interested in sob stories of well off pampered and spoilt brats who think they've got it hard, they need to be woken up , not pandered to.

I watched my Mum gradually break down mentally. It took 2 years to bring her out of it. I helped rescue a woman from a railway bridge about to jump. She had a similar breakdown. She was a close family friend. She eventually stepped out in front of an HGV on the M25 and killed herself about 3 weeks after we saved her.

I was so angry , it could have been prevented but the doctors did not take it seriously.

Mental illness is no different to any other illness. Heart disease for example. We have come on leaps and bounds with treatment. The brain is far more complex though. Disorders can be there from birth or manifest later. Be accentuated by circumstances etc. It's not a case of telling people to Man Up. PTSD is only just being taken seriously. Soldiers coming home after seeing people blown to pieces, their mates included.

Everyone is different, some more resilient than others both physically and mentally.
