I was wondering if anyone knows a decent roofer local to the Medway area? I'm based in Strood now and had a few ridge tiles come off during the storm and getting a trusted roofer is harder than I thought.

I did have a leaflet come through of a roofing firm but couldn't find any decent reviews online so don't wanna risk some cowboy.

Any help would be appreciated 👍🏻

We've used Premier Roofcare Services a couple of times, based in Rochester. Quite expensive, but do a great job. 0800 086 2086

Go with a personal recommendation like Fishgill.
There are so many wrong uns out there.
We had a local guy do ours but that’s not local to you, so no good.
He was recommended, and very reasonable for cash in hand.
Up, down and finished in less than an hour.

When I moved over to Essex I didn't really know anyone so couldn't get "word of mouth" recommendations so always used the Trust a Trader app. They verify all reviews so are as reliable as they can be.

Yes, that's how we got our excellent Carpenter.

I am of little use on this.

Had a tile come off in the big storm. Roofer lives opposite and he offered to put it back on straight away.
Next day it had blown off again and he said he would put it straight back up, still waiting and can hardly get hold of him even though i put notes through his door.

Now normally i never give anyone work when they offer to do a job. This time i though oh well at least it will be done asap.
So £50 down and no sight of him.

You'd think he would be too embarrassed to bin you given he lives opposite and you've already paid him. Some people have no shame.

When younger i did a lot of building jobs and really its par for the course.
More stupidity from me for moving from my normal policy.

One time a ridge tile blew off.
I spoke to the builders working next door.
A couple of days later, in a spare 30 mins or so (waiting for materials ?) they replaced it for (IIRC) £60.
(The ridge tile is still in place.)

Another time, when booking a roofer to replace 2 broken tiles, I was charged £130 !

So I'd try Plan A (if any builders are working nearby)

Every trade charges a minimum "call out" charge.

This is the company I would have recommended if I lived closer to Medway (they are based in Marden), and if you go to the bottom of the page you will see that they are transparent about their minimum call out terms. Small jobs are always expensive, as they still have to travel to and from:
Welcome to The Roofline Specialist - The Roofline Specialist

Of course, if a builder is working closeby anyway, they are going to give you a good quote.
