Rocha

Apologies,Sky must be slower than pigeon post
Just heard them saying scummer Beattie has joined Accrington in a player/coach role and Wiki has had that reported since 9th Nov

It appears that when Guy got the temp. managers job, Rocha sent him a text congratulating him on the job, Guy being very much on the ball, texted back mentioning a possible return to FP for RR, discussions are on going. (Todays News.) :1: :1: :1: :1:

Good news! Rocha was a rock at the back for us last season. I couldn't really understand appys decision not to re-sign him but he's back now. Hopefully he can shore up our defence.
Possible new captain for us?
It seems that 'Appy thought RR was much too old for his team. He wanted all younger players. I'm glad that hes back whatever his age. :1:

Rug, I'd rather play Walker, Williamson, Ertl or Russell than Howard let alone put him as Captain. Best he goes in January, he has been a huge disappointment and probably one of the most expensive at the club...

Welcome home Ricardo!!

Great news - Rocha is going to be true class at this level. I just hope we haven't sold the family silver to do it. Oh, I forgot, we sold that years ago (or Chanrai took it anyway!)

It seems that RR trained yesterday, but is not match fit, so will be on the bench this evening and come on if necessary. :1:

Deffo off the pace Jim. But he seemed to get a little better as the half wore on. I am still hopeful that unlike some of the "big names" we have / have had (e.g. Buzasky, Harley, Howard...) who have woefully under delivered, Rocha will give us some big performances this season.

Ricardo Rocha has completed his return to Pompey. The defender is back in time to feature for us against Orient tomorrow, if selected.

The mooted return to Fratton of Rocha John Rocha has come off.

His return has officially been confirmed on The Pompey Site, with him saying: 'I'm delighted to be back at Pompey and to have the chance to help out Guy and this great club.

'I can't wait to get out on the pitch again and play in front of the fantastic supporters at Fratton Park.'

I would imagine, even though it is an initial one-month deal, the 33-year-old is back for the remainder of the season.

Perhaps he is not as mobile as he once was and perhaps he does not have the pace but when you have the ability to read the game as he does that can make a huge difference. He is also very calm and composed on the ball, which will also help us.

With Watford recalling Carl Dickinson, who was suspended for what would have been his final game tomorrow anyway – it 'seems' they have done us a favour by ending this loan early – that left a space open in the squad so RJR is eligible to play tomorrow.

Well, assuming the FA give him clearance...

I am more than happy to have him back, and I do not think he should have been released anyway.

The fact that he has returned now must mean that it was not entirely a financially based decision to release him in the summer?

PLAY UP POMPEY!

did i miss something in the build-up to the sheff utd game, but does anyone know where RJR was on saturday?

not in the starting XI, on the bench or in the ground it seems as otherwise he would have come out onto the pitch with the others players wouldnt he?

then again he wont, change of mind, thought he was worth more, no idea but not signing, bye bye and thanks

There will not be a return to Fratton for Rocha John Rocha as the club have officially confirmed that a deal could not be agreed with the defender.

Fears had been raised that the budget could be broken, and thoughts were expressed that this could happen to accommodate another return to Pompey for Rocha John Rocha.

This will not be the case, it has been confirmed by Guy Whittingham on The Pompey Site that a deal could not be agreed: 'it would have been fantastic to have added Ricardo to our squad for the new season.

'Myself, the chairman and chief executive have held a series of talks with him over recent months. Unfortunately we were unable to finalise a deal, but we wish him all the best for the future.

'Ricardo has served Pompey well over the past few years and it was clear from meeting with him that he still holds a lot of affection for this club.'

A number of discussions were held with RJR over the weeks to try and get him back but financial terms could not be agreed so this could not happen.

I must say that I am glad that we have not broke the budget excessively to bring him back, even though RJR would have definitely added plenty on and off the pitch and is among one of my favourite Pompey players, easily in recent history.

Vital Pompey ran a poll on this very – bank breaking - issue, these were the results...

What the poll asked - Should we 'break the budget' for Rocha (or anyone)?

How you voted - Nope, its vital we KEEP to a budget 77%
Yep, speculate to accumulate 23%

The very best of luck to RJR, I suspect that he may now retire but he leaves us with plenty of fond memories and I wish him well with whatever he does next...

Sam Sodje has made it clear he would be interested in coming back to play for us again.

Well, if he has not fixed himself up with a club, still wants this and is within the budget then maybe we could have a word with him again?

I'm glad Rocha isn't coming back. As much as I loved him as a player, he hadn't made pre-season, is no spring chicken, is probably too expensive for us & frankly is probably too small for L2 rough & tumble.

He has been a Pompey star for a number of years, but I don't think him walking away is a bad thing.
