Hearing we are set to sign 2 new players today (Monday).

Both wide players. Both players are from relegated clubs, one relagated from league 1 & one relegated from league 2.

Connelly hopeful of signing along with a coaching roll/development.

Its not any Aldershot players. Guy not interested in Danny Hylton either.

Well let's hope so Nagoya.

It appears that we're getting a squad together BEFORE pre-season.

This is a radical new approach that we haven't tried for the last 5 years or so. I wonder if it works?

The Pompey approach is normally to have pre-season during the normal season, which is clearly the most efficient. I mean, what is the point of letting players get to know each other before they play in games that matter?

I hope Whittingham knows what he's doing by getting players in dangerously early like this.

It's madness I tell you. Madness! Everyone knows you need to bugger off abroad with a load of players you won't sign for a week in summer, then scramble to assemble a squad the day before your first match....;)

Pompey are being linked with moves for another couple of players, with a left-winger possible being snapped up as quickly as today.

The recruitment drive, which has seen 10 players commit their future to Pompey since the end of the season, is expected to continue with another couple of players potentially signing within the next 24-hours?

Among them, as The News reports, is going to be a genuine left-sided winger...

Quite clearly this is something that Guy Whittingham wants: 'we didn't have width last season and need two creators on the outside – players who can also be flexible in other positions.

'Last season we had Shaun Cooper, Liam Walker and Jed Wallace but they would see themselves as central-midfield players rather than on the left or right.

'They did a great job for us, especially Jed – but he is not a winger.

'We need someone who can help create in and around the 18-yard box and you also need pace everywhere.'

Both players, unidentified at this moment, seem as though they are wide players from the other quotes given by Whittingham in The News this morning – with this left winger arriving as early as today?

Answers from David Connolly and Johnny Ertl, both offered new contracts, are also expected this week...

Fingers crossed both commit as they showed just how influential they are!

If they do that would give us great experience and leadership qualities, with both always wanted. It is always good to have an experienced pro right through the spine of the side from central defence to attack – we might be slightly lacking in experience in that defensive area but with a return for either Rocha John Rocha or Sam Sodje not ruled out, it is still possible that this experienced spine throughout could still take shape?

It continues to be an exciting time at Pompey doesn't it!

PLAY UP POMPEY!

lol, it the way isnt it - its never failed us... :10:

really happy with how things are developing, and looking forward to finding out who these players - if they come off - are going to be.

REALLY hope connolly and ertl stay, funnily enough i mentioned them in the article before coming into the forum where you mention these players and those two as i had.

on the VP facebook page it was suggested that ricky holmes, who is free after his contract with barnet ended, could be one that signs?

We def. need wingers, but we also need both Ertl & Connolly next season, I def want those 2 here again. :5:

Ertl would be massive if we could get him here next season. I think Connolly may be more replaceable. However, its all very positive at the moment which is nice. With Portsmouth, I've grown used to waiting for that nasty surprise around the corner but its looking good at the moment.
Interestingly, we signed Barcham on a 3 year deal. Have we done that for any others yet?

ricky holmes played for barnet last season, and has for a few years - pretty highly rated with several football league clubs, including some in league one, wanting him now his barnet contract has ended.

wonder if it will be holmes?

Jake, on your comment i am not so sure that connolly is the easier to be replaced - think he offers SOOO much for now, and potentially the future. not that johnny doesnt mind!
