results tonight

Couldn't be bothered to check the results until this morning. What's the point. Just piles on yet more misery.

Far from confident we can get another point in the last 3 games on current form to be honest.

And if that's the case then our final league position will overall show little improvement from the last campaign.

Put simply, a lack of goals. I hope Brad has the answers.

All season I kept thinking “we’ll put a little run together soon and stay in the top 7”. I still thought that a few weeks ago.

But all season we only ever put little runs of poor results together before falling off a cliff the last 3 weeks. We’ve been the very definition of an inconsistent mid-table side. And one that doesn’t score which makes it 10x worse.
TBF, we have had a lack of goals for 3 seasons as the stats show, but still had the third best record in the second half of last season so were getting stronger.

On the face of it, the defence seems to be getting weaker.

It's that second half of last season that stands out for me as being the exception. Why were we so good? We were the division's "form team".

Unfortunately, if you're not consistently threatening to score (or actually scoring), the opposition can afford to take chances throwing more into attack. And some of those attacks will get through.

That’s the plain and simple truth.
Anyone up for a ‘different direction’ ?
If we finish bottom half of the league table then I’d think that’s bordering on disaster given the preseason hype.

Groundhog year, only direction of travel is different.

I'd still rather be in our shoes than those of the Cowleys. These are Col U's remaining fixtures:

Squeaky bum time?
Yep. A few of us (me included) thought the Cowleys might be the best fit for us too.
Col U fans were sure their season was saved when they turned up.
I hope it is btw!

I have been chatting to a Gills ST holder mate on the phone who is expecting a toxic atmosphere on Saturday.
He reckons that many fans have turned against Clem already.
Any evidence from regulars.
Next stop …. Brad ?

I believe Clem has these three games, ten next season and then it's Adios. Surely, Brad will not want to hear negativity around the ground.

I'd rather get rid of your mate as a ST Holder than Clemence.

At some point, we need to back a manager - this short term cycle just resets everything and it'll be the same with the next manager, needing several windows to set their style of play.

Giving him the right playing staff should be a minimum expectation. The fact he has no goalscorers is not his fault - the stats don't lie, we create but we don't score.

Clemence needs backing in the market and then AT THE VERY LEAST to next March. Booing this Saturday can get in the bin. If he does that, your mate is a bigger problem than Clemence or anything else at the club right now...

Hear hear. Booing the manager because you're 13th in the table, absolute toilet.

Crawley lost! It’s game on!! If we can just…
If we somehow could win our next two games and results went our way (both unlikely, but in this inconsistent division not impossible), then we could go in to the last game with a mathematical chance of the playoffs. Anything can happen on the last day as we found out at Wycombe those years ago when about 7 results went against us to relegate us!

However, this is the Gills, so I am not sure what is more unlikely: us getting the results we need or any form of luck or freak chance going our way?

When Simon Weaver became manager of Harrogate, in his first season (before his dad bought the club), they finished rock bottom of NL North. Only reason they didn't get relegated was coz 3 (I think) other clubs had got some kind of financial problems and got relegated instead. During that season, Bill Fotherby (then owner, ex Leeds iirc) gave Simon a 3 year extension to his contract (again, the exact time extension is my recollection). Bill said that more clubs should back their manager in this way when things weren't going well.

Kind of proves your point, but how many of us would be happy if GFC did the same? Think Ade Pennock or Neale Cooper for example.

Personally, I'm still not convinced the current manager is the problem. I think he's trying to fashion a silk purse from the sow's ear he's been presented with by our recruitment "specialists".

Does that stop him from showing attacking intent when losing in the final minutes of games. Would rather go down fighting and chance losing by an extra goal.

Manager/ head coaches don't put entertainment first. Keeping the goal difference positive or as low as possible is more important.

SC agreed and took on the challenge this season based on the players we had, and the club has already backed him financially.

If we end in the bottom half of the table, it can only be seen a dismal failure

I don't agree with booing the manager or any of the team, they already know they have failed and the interviews they give don't make it any better - I know we will get a reaction at Bradford, and we did - another poor performance

SC has hardly got a proven track record so not sure if I would trust him with the spending budget in the close season, if he fails again next season we will be in the same position.
